Dark circles under your eyes are notoriously difficult to correct, and they can make you look tired and older than you want.

The Best Drugstore Concealers for Dark Circles Under the Eye on Circle Tray

This post is all about camouflaging with the best drugstore concealers for dark circles.

Whether you have dark circles from pigmentation, aging, or if it’s simply in your genes, the drugstore has many options to cover your dark circles (and puffiness and bags, too).

Before we get to the list of some of the best drugstore concealers for dark circles under your eyes, here are some tips and tricks if you have really dark circles, and concealer just isn’t enough.

18 Best Drugstore Under Eye Concealers for Dark Circles

The drugstore has some fantastic concealers for dark circles and other imperfections that you need covered asap. They are not only affordable but also very pigmented and highly effective.

They range from concealers to neutralizers and correctors to brighteners.

My Top Picks

The best drugstore concealer for your dark circles will work with your skin type and how much coverage you need under your eyes.

1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer (shown above in the shade Light) is an award-winning concealer for dark circles and fine lines.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record on this website, I think this is the best drugstore concealer for dark circles.

In fact, I think this is the best drugstore concealer for full coverage correction, period.

This full coverage drugstore concealer is formulated with goji berry and Haloxyl, a peptide blend that brightens and thickens the skin around the eyes.

The skin around the eyes thins as we age, so this lightening ingredient improves circulation and helps to decrease blood pigmentation around the eyes, which leads to discoloration. The peptides also support collagen production and improve elasticity.

Instant Age Rewind Concealer Micro-Corrector Applicator

Instant Age Rewind Concealer comes with a Micro-Corrector applicator (sponge) that can be applied directly to the under-eye area.

Even though the directions say that the applicator is protected by an anti-microbial system (should you not wet the applicator), I prefer to remove the applicator and apply the concealer to my finger before applying it to my eye area.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, Neutralizer, Brightener
From Left to Right: Neutralizer, Concealer (in Light), and Brightener

The concealer comes in 18 shades, including a Neutralizer and Brightener. If you have really deep dark circles, you can apply the Neutralizer under your concealer.

You can apply the Brightener to the inner corner of the eyes, cheek and brow bones, and the bridge of the nose.

This concealer has a very pigmented formula and glides across the under-eye area smoothly. The Neutralizer provides an additional base to hide dark circles.

I love using the Brightener on the inner corners under and above the eyes.

2. L’Oreal Paris True Match Eye Cream in a Concealer with 0.5% Hyaluronic Acid

L’Oreal Paris True Match Eye Cream in a Concealer

L’Oreal Paris True Match Eye Cream in a Concealer (shown above in C3-4 Light) is my pick for the best 2-in-1 eye cream for dark circles since it not only corrects dark circles but also acts as an eye cream.

This concealer provides up to 24 hours of hydration for fresher and less puffy eyes in only one week. 0.5% hyaluronic acid delivers hydration and plumps the skin.

This eye cream is fragrance-free, paraben-free, non-comedogenic, and suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin.

This formula is thinner than expected and covers dark circles nicely.

If you are short on time, this is the ideal product to deliver skincare to the eyes in the form of hyaluronic acid and also camouflage dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, and other imperfections.

The concealer comes in 14 shades. I purchased Light C3-4 and wish I bought it in Fair C1-2, as it is slightly dark. You generally do best with a shade slightly lighter than your foundation under your eyes.

I will use this on days that I apply a lightweight eye serum such as this eye concentrate from NIOD or this caffeine eye serum from The Ordinary to double the skincare benefits of these eye care products.

3. L’Oréal Paris Makeup Infallible Full Wear Concealer

L’Oréal Paris Makeup Infallible Full Wear Concealer

L’Oréal Paris Makeup Infallible Full Wear Concealer (shown above in Oatmeal) is a full-coverage concealer formulated for up to 24 hours of wear. It’s L’Oreal’s highest coverage formula and comes in a huge shade range of 25 shades for every skin tone.

This concealer dries to a matte finish and quickly covers not only under-eye circles but also acne scars, blemishes, and discoloration with its large applicator tip.

The formula is waterproof and won’t transfer or flake, so it will last all day. Because it is a concentrated formula, only a small amount is needed, otherwise, it will look too overdone.

You can also use this concealer to contour or highlight. Just use a shade 1-2 shades lighter for highlighting and brightening and 1-2 shades deeper for contouring.

It works to camouflage dark circles as well as puffiness and bags while leaving a natural finish, not too matte and not too dewy.

It comes in 18 shades, so it will work for most skin tones. This concealer is formulated without parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, and fragrances, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

5. NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer

  • Lavender covers dark circles under the eyes on darker skin tones and yellow skin discolorations, blemishes, and other imperfections.
  • Yellow covers purple-based skin discolorations like dark circles and veins, blemishes, and other imperfections.

Don’t let the thinner consistency fool you. NYX Professional Makeup HD Studio Photogenic Concealer covers dark circles well and contours beautifully without looking cakey.

This concealer has a small application tip that allows you to deposit concealer closer to the inner corners of your eyes.

I love this super-creamy formula that covers really well and the matte finish it provides. It’s great for combination and oily skin types.

This is one of the concealers often touted as an alternative to the cult-favorite Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer.

I wrote an entire post about testing drugstore concealer alternatives for Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer.

NOTE: If you have dry skin or mature skin in need of hydration, e.l.f. also offers a Hydrating Camo Concealer that offers a creamy, satin finish that lasts all day.

9. NYX Color Correcting Concealer Palette

NYX Color Correcting Concealer Palette

The best drugstsore color corrector palette, NYX Color Correcting Concealer Palette has six color-correcting shades that allow you to customize your corrector by layering and blending different colors.

From the top right clockwise:

  • Green neutralizes redness such as blemishes/acne.
  • Pink brightens dark circles and dull complexions.
  • Deep camouflages imperfections.
  • Light camouflages imperfections.
  • Purple neutralizes yellow undertones.
  • Yellow conceals purple and deep red discolorations such as veins/dark spots.

I love the brightening that the Pink provides as a corrector and will follow with the Light concealer shade. If short on time, I will sometimes mix these creamy shades to hide my dark circles.

I apply with a makeup brush and then pat gently under my eyes with my fingers to blend.

This drugstore color corrector palette really brightens up my under-eye and provide the ideal base to follow with a traditional concealer.

The coverage is much more pigmented than I expected. Even better, you can combine the traditional concealer shades with a corrector for a beautiful natural finish.

This concealer is creamy and rich. It lasts up to 24 hours with its full-coverage formula. The thin angled applicator makes it easy to apply under and around the corners of your eyes.

It’s very blendable and buildable too, so it won’t look too cakey or heavy. Available in 24 shades.

13. NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum

NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum in the shade Light.

If a full-coverage concealer is too heavy for your skin, or if you have dry skin and want a hydrating concealer, NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum (shown above in Light) could be a great option for you.

Ingredients to Look for in Drugstore Under Eye Concealers

When choosing the best drugstore under eye concealer, it’s important to consider the ingredients that target dark circles and help camoflauge the visible signs of aging.

Not only do you want something that conceals, but if possible, you should also opt for ingredients that offer skin benefits.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the most sought-after ingredients to perk up your under eye area:

  • Hyaluronic Acid: A potent humectant that draws moisture from the environment into your skin. It helps hydrate your skin, making it appear plump and reducing the appearance of fine lines under your eyes.
  • Vitamin C & E: Both are powerful antioxidants that protect the skin against damage from free radicals and UV rays. Vitamin C also brightens your skin, reducing the appearance of dark circles.
  • Caffeine: This ingredient improves the microcirculation of your blood vessels and helps with dark circles and puffiness. It’s especially useful for those tired mornings when your eyes need an extra boost.
  • Neutralizers and Color Correctors: These are essential in concealers as they combat the discoloration of dark circles.
  • Light-reflecting Pigments: Some concealers contain these pigments to help brighten your under-eye area and make it look more luminous.
  • SPF: If you’re going to be out in the sun, consider a concealer with SPF to protect your delicate under-eye area from UV rays.
  • Peptides: These are chains of amino acids that are building blocks of proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin. They are beneficial for your skin’s health and vitality. Peptides in concealers can help replenish your under-eye area.
  • Non-Comedogenic Ingredients: Especially crucial for acne-prone skin, non-comedogenic ingredients won’t irritate the oil glands under your eyes.

For Extremely Dark Circles…

Apply A Neutralizer Under Your Concealer

It turns out that extremely dark circles are best treated by first neutralizing the undertone of the dark circle with a corrector.

Then you can apply concealer on top of the corrector. I have seen the best results using this one-two punch to knock out my dark circles.

Not everyone has the same undertones, so once you determine the shade of your dark circles, you can treat them with the appropriate shade of corrector. In general, follow these guidelines for color-correcting:

  • Green Undertone: Use A Red/Peach Undertone Corrector/Concealer
  • Purple/Blue Undertone: Use a Yellow or Orange Undertone Corrector/Concealer
  • Red/Pink Dark Circles: Use A Green Undertone Corrector/Concealer

Apply a Brightener

You’ve probably heard that dark colors absorb light. That’s why I try to avoid wearing dark colors in the sun when it’s hot out. Well, it turns out that your dark circles will absorb light as well.

The goal is for our dark circles to reflect light, so you can apply a product specifically designed to brighten the under-eye area and reflect light.

These brightening concealers with light-reflecting pigments can hide circles and open up your eye area, faking a more wide-awake look.

How To Apply Drugstore Under Eye Concealers to Hide Dark Circles

Apply a concealer after your skincare routine and foundation/tinted moisturizer or any other base makeup product that you apply to your entire face. This provides a base for the concealer.

There are a variety of effective ways to apply concealer under your eyes, but don’t simply swipe a line under your eyes and drag or smear it into your skin. This may cause caking and creasing.

Draw an inverted triangle under each eye with the tip facing down toward your cheek (you can also apply a few dots inside the triangle).

Gently pat to blend with a concealer brush, a makeup blender sponge (these Mini Miracle Complexion Sponges from Real Techniques allow you to apply concealer in the corners around your eyes), or your ring finger to distribute the concealer across your dark circles.

Alternately, you can dab multiple dots of concealer in a half circle along your dark circles and gently blend.

Consider sweeping a setting powder on top to lock your concealer in place so that it will last all day.

TIP: Remember, less is more. You can always layer concealer for more coverage if your first application is insufficient.

Treat Dark Circles Under Your Eyes with Skincare

Concealers can only do so much to hide your dark circles. You can apply skincare products that stimulate collagen production, help brighten the under-eye area and protect your skin from future discoloration and hyperpigmentation.

Apply An Eye Cream Formulated with A Retinoid

Dark circles can form with age as skin thins and fat decreases around the delicate eye area.

This image, published in 2016 in The Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, shows the mid-face and lower eyelid anatomy with aging. As volume decreases, hollows and shadowing increase.

Try an eye cream containing a retinoid for dark circles due to thinning skin from aging. Retinoids help stimulate collagen and can thicken the skin over time.

I have dark circles that have appeared with age. They are frustrating and don’t go away.

I have been religious about applying an eye cream formulated with a retinoid to thicken the skin under my eyes and stimulate collagen production. As a result, my eye area is smoother and fine lines are softening.

Apply Brightening Skincare Products

Spending too much time in the sun can cause hyperpigmentation. This may occur under the eyes resulting in splotchy discolored skin.

Brightening skincare products such as those formulated with vitamin C will improve hyperpigmentation and other sun damage and help prevent further damage.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen

While applying sunscreen every single day is a must regardless of whether or not you have dark circles, it will also help prevent sun damage which can cause hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles that can make dark circles worse.

Visit A Dermatologist for Additional Options

Consider visiting a dermatologist if no over-the-counter options budge your dark circles.

There may be prescription-strength treatment products or procedures to help your dark circles. Chemical peels or IPL (Intense pulsed light) treatments may help under-eye pigmentation.

Hyaluronic acid filler is helpful with loss of volume and the resulting hollow appearance under the eyes.

13 Best Drugstore Foundation Dupes https://www.abeautyedit.com/best-drugstore-foundation-dupes/ https://www.abeautyedit.com/best-drugstore-foundation-dupes/#comments Tue, 23 Mar 2021 19:28:00 +0000 https://www.abeautyedit.com/?p=7475 Since foundation is the base for your entire makeup look, this is one area of your makeup routine that you want to get right. High-end luxury foundations may perform well but can get quite expensive. Luckily, the drugstore offers some fantastic alternatives, or foundation dupes, to high-end foundation favorites.

The Best Drugstore Foundation Dupes 2020

The following list of foundation dupes may not be exact replacements for high-end foundations, and some of their formulas might even be quite different.

But the end look and wear of the drugstore makeup products will give you a strikingly similar appearance to these luxury foundation stand-outs.

One thing for sure is there is a noticeable price difference, as some of the dupes cost less than 1/4 of the high-end prestige foundations.

This makes testing and even mixing shades much more affordable and easier on your wallet.

Let’s take a look at some of the best drugstore foundation dupes of 2023:

This post contains affiliate links, and any purchases made through these links will result in a commission for me at no extra cost to you. Please read my Disclosure for additional information.

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup vs Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Makeup:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup is a cult favorite for a reason.

This foundation is the US’s #1 prestige brand foundation, thanks to its full-coverage matte finish that DOES NOT BUDGE all day.

It sets quickly, so it should be applied with a damp makeup sponge if you want to blend it well.

Double Wear, a long-wear foundation, is waterproof and heat-proof. It comes in a whopping 55 shades to work with various cool, neutral, and warm skin tones.

Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Makeup

Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Foundation Makeup

Even though Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Makeup has a thick whipped texture and is not liquid like Estee Lauder Double Wear, this foundation really COVERS and does it with a long-wearing matte finish.

A little goes a long way with this foundation. Unlike Double Wear, its whipped texture blends easily.

What makes it a drugstore foundation dupe for Estee Lauder Double Wear is its excellent lasting coverage that easily hides flaws, discoloration, and uneven skin texture.

It also works well to keep oil at bay. The only drawback is the 16 available shades, which is much less than Double Wear.

I love this Revlon foundation, and it’s one of my go-to full coverage drugstore foundations. This is the ideal full coverage drugstore foundation for oily skin.

Great coverage, a good color match, and an affordable drugstore price!

2. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation vs L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation:

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation is a buildable full-coverage foundation that provides a natural matte finish.

This foundation is formulated with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, moringa seed extracts and prebiotics to create a nourishing and breathable transfer-resistant formula.

The fragrance-free foundation provides up to 24-hour wear and comes in 42 shades.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation will provide a demi-matte finish and up to 24 hours of wear with its lightweight liquid formula.

This foundation will smooth the skin and easily hide uneven skin tone, blemishes, and other imperfections.

This weightless Lancome foundation dupe is medium coverage. It comes in 28 shades. Like Lancome, it will provide up to 24 hours of shine control, and is transfer resistant.

This is an excellent dupe for Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear. Keep in mind that L’Oreal owns Lancome, so it’s not surprising that this foundation is similar in formula and finish.

3. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ vs Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup, SPF 50:

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ is the #1 CC cream in the US. This CC cream provides full coverage, hydration, and the benefits of an anti-aging serum.

Potent active ingredients include hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and vitamins.

The CC+ cream improves the look of dark circles, redness, acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

Plus, it contains physical sunscreen of SPF 50+ that will work for even sensitive skin. The finish is natural and flawless.

What Is A CC Cream?

What is a CC cream, you ask? CC stands for color correcting cream/color corrector cream/complexion corrector cream, so a CC cream will provide multiple benefits to your skin.

These benefits include higher coverage than a BB “beauty balm” or “blemish balm” cream, but usually less than a full coverage foundation. CC creams often come with anti-aging benefits and sunscreen protection.

Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup, SPF 50

Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup

Maybelline Dream Urban Cover Flawless Coverage Foundation Makeup SPF 50 is a lightweight full coverage foundation that contains a broad-spectrum SPF 50 (chemical sunscreen) and antioxidants to protect from damage caused by UV rays, pollution, and other environmental stressors.

Maybelline Dream Urban Cover is not available in as many shades as the best-selling It Cosmetics CC Cream. It is not as full-coverage as It Cosmetics, but it is buildable to medium coverage.

The consistency is a little thicker, and the coverage is slightly more matte, but the result is very similar: medium coverage and long wear with sunscreen protection.

It Cosmetics has many more skincare actives, so some of those ingredients may contribute to its expensive price tag.

I don’t mind keeping my skincare actives in my skincare routine anyway, so Maybelline Dream Urban Cover may be worth a try if you feel the same.

4. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation vs L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Foundation:

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Inspired by charmeuse silk, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is luxury makeup at its finest. Luminous Silk is a weightless, buildable, medium-coverage foundation.

It uses Armani’s Micro–fil technology to provide a gorgeous glow and skin-like finish. This foundation has won countless awards, and the price tag is steep!

This is the most expensive foundation I’ve ever purchased. It’s hard to rationalize spending so much for an ounce of foundation, but it is unlike any other foundation I’ve tried.

(If you want to give it a try without spending full price, you can purchase the mini size of 0.6 oz. Still expensive, but less than the full price.)

It leaves such a beautiful airbrush finish and wears extremely well.

Also, like Dermablend, it’s lightweight, and a little goes a long way. (That’s probably why the bottle is so small).

At less than half the price of Dermablend, this liquid dropper foundation is worth checking out.

While it doesn’t come in as many shades as MAC Studio Fix Fluid, its lightweight blurring coverage and affordable price give MAC a run for its money.

Some are so similar that they can be called dupes.

Although not exactly like their high-end counterparts, these drugstore makeup dupes perform very similarly, whether a base makeup product, like foundation or concealer, or a color cosmetic product, like blush or mascara.

Drugstore Makeup Products That Are Dupes for High End/Luxury Makeup

The one thing that consistently sets apart these dupes from luxury makeup products is the price.

The drugstore dupes listed in this post are half the price (or more!) than their equivalent luxury makeup products!

When you can buy an excellent makeup product for under $10, why spend 5x for the brand name?

Granted, luxury makeup products may also come with luxury packaging, but for me, that usually doesn’t warrant the price.

Now, onto the drugstore makeup dupes…

High-End Makeup vs Drugstore Dupes

1. Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer vs e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer is the true definition of luxury high-end makeup.

This luxe primer is formulated with three different types of silk for a velvety smooth application.

It supports the skin’s barrier function, helps to prevent clogged pores and breakouts, and protects the skin from environmental aggressors.

It sinks into the skin, creating a blurred effect, and the result is the perfect canvas for makeup application.

e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer open.

If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative to The Silk Canvas, look no further than e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer.

Poreless Putty is formulated with squalane to moisturize and grip makeup for a smooth complexion. It minimizes imperfections to create a poreless look.

This drugstore primer has a balm texture just like The Silk Canvas and comes quite close in performance to The Silk Canvas.

Due to the popularity of this primer, e.l.f. has introduced multiple variations of this best-selling primer to address different skin concerns.

Additional options in the e.l.f. Poreless Putty family of primers include:

  • Luminous Putty Primer for a more radiant complexion
  • Matte Putty Primer for a shine-free matte complexion.
  • Acne Fighting Putty Primer to fight acne and prevent future breakouts

2. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation vs L’Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Foundation

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, handheld.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation lands on “best of” beauty lists year after year for a good reason.

Inspired by charmeuse silk, this is a lightweight foundation that provides a beautiful skin-like finish.

Armani’s Micro–fil technology sculpts and brightens the skin, improves texture, and blurs imperfections. The foundation comes in 30 shades to match a variety of skin tones.

L'Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Foundation in the shade C 2.5, handheld.

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Foundation is a best-selling foundation that has medium coverage in a lightweight liquid.

The coverage is buildable, so you can layer it for the look and coverage you desire.

The lightweight formula contains up to 6 pigments for a precise skin tone match.

True Match comes in a large range of 47 skin-like shades so that you can find your perfect shade match.

This foundation dupe is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

The vegan, hydrating formula now comes in a pump bottle for easy application, which is so much better than the old bottle that had a screw cap.

The foundation provides a natural finish that looks like skin, not a foundation!

3. Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer vs Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer (America’s #1 concealer brand, per Tarte’s website) really does live up to the hype.

It provides full coverage for up to 16 hours. It smooths and brightens the skin (especially around the eyes), and its formula is crease-proof and won’t cake on your skin.

Shape Tape is formulated with shea butter for elasticity, mango butter for moisture, and licorice root to brighten the look of dark circles and color correct the skin.

It also helps to blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The oversized doe applicator makes application a breeze. It comes in a large selection of 30 shades to match all skin tones.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer comes packaged slightly differently, and the packaging is the only drawback, in my opinion.

The concealer comes with a micro-corrector application sponge (I remove and apply the concealer to my finger first before applying it to my eyes).

The formula contains goji berry plus Haloxyl to increase blood circulation and improve the look of dark circles.

This is a full coverage concealer to erase dark circles, smooth fine lines, and reduce puffiness. This concealer comes in 12 shades.

While many other drugstore concealers are touted to be Shape Tape dupes (such as this one or this one), I think Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer performs better than any of the other dupe contenders.

The packaging may differ slightly from Shape Tape, but the coverage is highly pigmented, creases minimally, and stays put all day.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer in the shade Medium.

  • Micro-fine perfecting powders create an invisible filter that adds color depth and coverage to your skin.
  • Microspheres create a silky texture.

This Charlotte Tilbury bronzer comes in four shades: Fair, Medium, Tan, and Deep. It can be used on both your face and body, is refillable, and is cruelty-free.

NYX Matte Bronzer in the shade Medium, handheld.

NYX Matte Bronzer (shown above in the shade Medium) is a matte bronzer that gives your skin a natural-looking gorgeous summer glow at a fraction of the price of Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer.

The bronzer has a silky smooth powder finish, so you can easily blend this bronzer into your skin for a beautiful bronzed look.

NYX Matte Bronzer comes in 5 russet shades, so you can choose one that matches your skin tone and desired glow.

5. NARS Blush vs Milani Baked Blush

Nars Orgasm Blush

NARS Blush was one of the first high-end makeup products I ever purchased, and it did not disappoint in both performance and product experience.

Their best-selling shade, Orgasm (peachy pink with shimmer), has received so much press over the years and love from customers and beauty editors alike, and it has become one of the brand’s best-selling products.

This cult-favorite blush is formulated with superfine micronized powder pigments to impart a beautiful natural-looking glow.

I’m not a huge fan of peach on my cheeks, but the peachy-pink shade has just the right amount of shimmer for a soft, blendable finish. NARS blush comes in 32 shades.

Milani Baked Blush in Rose D'Oro opened.

Milani Baked Blush in the shade Rose D’Oro has been sunbaked on Italian terracotta tiles for a warm glow and natural look.

This blush has gold fleck veining for a beautiful golden sheen. This blush is highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way.

For such a cheap price, what’s not to love?

6. Urban Decay Naked3 Palette Eyeshadow Palette vs CoverGirl Roses TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes are so iconic when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, and they are priced for a luxury experience.

Urban Decay Naked3 Palette Eyeshadow Palette includes 12 rose-hued neutral eye shadows that range from matte to pearl to metallic shades.

You can use the award-winning palette for day-to-night looks with its richly pigmented shades.

Apply the matte shades all over the eyelid for contouring, and the metallics and shimmers add bold and striking dimension to your eyes. This is a gorgeous yet expensive eyeshadow palette.

CoverGirl Roses TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette

CoverGirl Roses TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette doesn’t appear to be hiding the fact that it looks like a dupe since the name itself, TruNaked, is VERY similar to the Naked3 palette name.

This is also a neutral palette with rose hues throughout with matte, shimmer, and smoky shades.

There are only 8 shades in the CoverGirl palette, but quite a few shades are close to the Naked3 palette, from almond to deeper shades.

These eyeshadows are baked and richly pigmented (with a bit of dusty powder kickback).

It’s not quite the Naked3 palette, but these are beautiful neutral eyeshadow shades that are easy to mix and match for such a low price.

7. It Cosmetics Brow Power Micro Universal Defining Eyebrow Pencil vs Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Defining Eyebrow Pencil

It Cosmetics Brow Power Micro Universal Defining Eyebrow Pencil is the micro-fine oval tip version of It Cosmetic’s best-selling Brow Power Pencil.

The micro-fine oval pencil tip provides the look of real hair with a micro-bladed effect. The pencil creates natural-looking brows, and the formula doesn’t budge.

This pencil comes in four universal shades, which transforms all hair colors, including gray, depending on how much pressure is applied.

There is a built-in spoolie brush on one end of the pencil to complete your brow look.

Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Defining Eyebrow Pencil handheld.

Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Defining Eyebrow Pencil (shown in Taupe) also has a micro-tip to provide hair-like strokes to mimic the look of your natural brows.

This pencil has an ultra 1.5mm precision tip and a break-resistant formula for a smooth application.

Unlike It Cosmetic Brow Power Micro, this pencil comes in 10 shades, from Light Blonde to Black. This pencil also has a spoolie brush on one end to create defined brows to your liking.

I don’t love universal shades in the It Cosmetics pencil because depending on how much pressure you apply, your brows may look a slightly different shade from one application to the next.

Both provide a similar look, but for well less than half the price of It Cosmetics, Maybelline provides additional color options and creates a natural brow look.

8. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara vs L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara wand and open tube.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara’s hourglass-shaped brush separates, coats, and curls every last lash for volume and definition.

This #1 best-selling prestige mascara in America is formulated with film-forming polymers to keep curls in place, Acacia Senegal Tree Extract for volume, and peptides for conditioning the lash.

Just one coat provides full, voluminous, and longer lashes. Lashes are thicker, lengthened, and lifted for a dramatic effect. This mascara comes in Black and Chocolate shades.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in the shade Black Brown handheld.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara bears a striking resemblance to Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara starting with its pale satin pink tube.

This mascara has a wavy brush that has 200+ bristles to create a full fringe effect. Lash Paradise creates volumized lengthened lashes with the formula’s black pigments.

This mascara dupe comes in 4 washable shades plus 2 waterproof shades.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara brush and open tube.

It leaves your lashes very soft, and the formula is buildable, so you can create a natural look with a single coat or a dramatic look with multiple coats.

Whether or not this was designed to be a dupe for Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, it comes very close at less than half the price.

9. Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer vs Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss

Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in the shade Fenty Glow, open with doe-foot applicator.

The shade Fenty Glow is a shimmering rose nude that provides a beautiful high-shine natural color.

The large application wand makes applying the gloss easy. It is available in 7 shades.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in the shade Glossy Future.

Super Lustrous Lip Gloss is also high shine and non-sticky. It contains agave, moringa oil, and capuacu butter for moisture and hydration.

This lip gloss is so shiny and natural-looking and very similar in shade to Fenty Glow.

There are 23 additional shades in the line. For more Fenty Gloss Bomb dupes, check out this post.

The shade Precious Petals is close to Smashbox X BECCA’s Pressed Highlighter in Opal. The Wet N Wild highlighter feels like a much more expensive formula than it really is.

The cheap price and smooth and buttery formula of Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighter have me going back to purchase more shades.

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer handheld.

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer also covers imperfections and discolorations while hiding redness and dark circles.

Like NARS, NYX HD Photogenic Concealer comes with a thin, precise application wand. Unlike NARS, NYX HD Photogenic Concealer offers color-correcting shades of Yellow, Lavender, and Green.

The vegan formula is slightly thicker than the lightweight NARS concealer but has incredibly pigmented coverage and satiny finish similar to NARS but for a much lower price!

While NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer comes in 30 shades, NYX concealer is available in 23 shades.

13. Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter vs e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in the shade Fair, handheld.

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is an award-winning makeup product that blurs imperfections, evens skin tone, and leaves your complexion looking radiant.

Flawless Filter has light-diffusing properties thanks to mica, a mineral that reflects light and creates a soft-focus effect while blurring imperfections and giving your skin an airbrushed look.

Even though it’s called lipstick, it’s somewhere in between a lip balm and lipstick due to the sheer color that isn’t as pigmented as a lipstick.

This black honey dupe is formulated with moisturizing meadowfoam seed oil plus antioxidant vitamin E to help keep your lips moist and soft.

The lightweight formula feels silky on the lips and isn’t sticky or tacky.

Rosy Glow Blush Dior’s Color Reviver technology reacts to the moisture levels of your skin for a custom rosy-colored effect on your cheeks.

The pink shade has a cool undertone that can be layered for more intensity or blended for a subtler look. I always like to give the first application a few seconds to develop before going in with a second layer since the color deepens upon application.

The blush has a soft, satiny finish that looks natural and not overly done and creates a beautiful unique pink shade based on your complexion.

Persona Super Blush in the shade Bubble, open compact, flatlay.

The Ordinary Foundation, Concealer, and Primer Review https://www.abeautyedit.com/the-ordinary-foundation-concealer-primer-review/ https://www.abeautyedit.com/the-ordinary-foundation-concealer-primer-review/#comments Wed, 17 Feb 2021 15:27:31 +0000 https://www.abeautyedit.com/?p=8835 If you are familiar with the skincare brand The Ordinary, makeup may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about The Ordinary. But in addition to their robust collection of affordable skincare products, The Ordinary offers just as affordable cosmetic products including makeup primers and their Colours foundation and concealer makeup collection.

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer, Coverage Foundation, High-Adherence Silicone Primer, Serum Foundation, and Concealer

The Ordinary makeup products currently include five different products: two primers, two foundations, and their latest offering, a concealer.

Since I am a big fan of their skincare products, I purchased all five of their makeup products and will share with you my experience and a review of The Ordinary foundation, primer, and concealer in this The Ordinary makeup review post.

This post contains affiliate links, and any purchases made through these links will result in a commission for me at no extra cost to you. Please read my Disclosure for additional information.

The Ordinary Foundations and Concealers Discontinued

Unfortunately, as of December 5, 2022, The Ordinary has decided to discontinue its foundation and concealers, as they did not reach enough customers and were not profitable since they were launched.

The Ordinary concealers will be discontinued on their website as of January 30, 2023, and the foundations will be discontinued in June 2023.

The Ordinary Foundation, Concealer, and Primer Review

The Ordinary Primer Reviews

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer and The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

There are two primers sold by The Ordinary: The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer and The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer. While both contain silicones, one formula is liquid while the other is a cream.

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

The formula of The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is similar to a serum. This primer increases the spreadability of makeup while smoothing your skin. It also minimizes uneven makeup application. This is particularly helpful if you have dry or patchy skin.

The formula also acts as a surface hydrator. It is formulated with a variety of silicones plus vitamin E.

I’ve never used a primer that was so fluid before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Leave it to The Ordinary to pleasantly surprise with this lightweight and non-greasy primer.

The primer sinks into my skin quickly and creates a smooth palette for makeup application. It helps foundation and makeup wear longer too.

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer with Dropper

The one drawback for me is the packaging. It’s a bit difficult to see in the image above, but the formula comes in a bottle with a dropper, similar to The Ordinary serums.

Since the formula is slightly thicker than a serum and grips the outside sides of the dropper, the application of the serum can get messy.

Even when I am careful and try to remove the primer from the outside of the dropper, inevitably, it ends up dripping off the sides onto the bottle or my fingers. I usually just apply the extra primer to my face, which surprisingly doesn’t get too thick or cakey.

Overall, my makeup wears much more evenly and is more natural-looking when I use this primer compared to no primer at all. My skin also feels very moisturized and smooth.

The lightweight feel makes me reach for this primer a little more often than The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer, which I discuss next.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

Formulated with adaptive silicones, The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer provides a trio of benefits for the skin: it is blurring, hydrating, and leaves a semi-matte finish. This helps makeup appear higher in definition and last longer.

Like The Ordinary’s liquid primer, this primer is formulated with a variety of silicones and vitamin E.

High-Adherence Silicone Primer can even be worn alone for non-oily hydration. It will help to smooth your complexion and reduce the appearance of pores.

This primer definitely feels a bit heavier on the skin than the Fluid Primer. Yet it creates a blurred and smooth canvas for makeup application. Makeup really does adhere better to the skin when this primer is used prior to makeup application. Although heavier on the skin, I think this primer grips makeup slightly better than The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.

The Ordinary Foundation Reviews

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation and Serum Foundation

The Ordinary offers two foundations: The Ordinary Coverage Foundation and The Ordinary Serum Foundation. Both foundations come in 21 shades and are oil-free.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation offers medium coverage, while The Ordinary Coverage Foundation offers full coverage.

Both foundations have a semi-matte finish and are formulated to work well with primer, especially The Ordinary primers.

Three of the 21 shades of both foundations are labeled with an S for Silver highlights and G for gold highlights. These shades have natural-looking metallic effect pigments for an added highlight effect.

These foundations are formulated with pigments that are suspended in The Ordinary’s proprietary spreadability system.

Sounds pretty technical, right? What this does is creates a natural look with a smooth finish. It also avoids creasing in fine lines and helps the foundations last longer.

One other interesting note is that The Ordinary states that due to the pigment suspension system used in these products, shades tend to look quite natural on the skin. As a result, three or more shades will work for most skin tones.

Shades can also be mixed together at the time you apply them for a custom-blended shade to best match your skin tone.

NOTE: In the European Union only, these formulas include mineral-based (Titanium Dioxide) SPF 15 sun protection.

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation is a lightweight full coverage foundation. This formula provides very natural-looking coverage at drugstore prices. The thin formula is lightweight, sinks in quickly, and provides a natural finish.

The coverage is buildable to full coverage. It works well to cover my hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and freckles.

It blends better and lasts longer when applied after The Ordinary primers and doesn’t settle into fine lines.

I ordered shade 2.0 (light-medium with pink undertones). It is still a little yellow for my skin tone and a bit too dark, so I subsequently ordered 1.2 (light with pink undertones). I mix the two shades together to get the best custom blend for my complexion.

Yet this was not my favorite foundation from The Ordinary…

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The Ordinary Serum Foundation is a lightweight medium coverage foundation. Even though this foundation is oil-free, it blends in so easily, just like an oil-based foundation. It feels nourishing yet super lightweight and never heavy or greasy.

You can apply this foundation with the pump that comes with it or purchase a dropper from The Ordinary. I think the pump is convenient, and it dispenses easily.

The best part of this foundation is that it is so skin-like. It performs like other luxury serum foundations that are several times the price. Like with the Coverage Foundation, wear is extended by The Ordinary primers.

I use shade 2.0P (light-medium with pink undertones) in this foundation. Once applied, it quickly disappears into my skin and evens out my skin tone. It does not sink into my fine lines, especially after applying one of The Ordinary’s primers.

Like the Coverage Foundation, the shade is a bit too dark for my complexion, so I will be purchasing the shade 1.2P to mix since mixing worked well with the Coverage Foundation.

I think this is better than a BB or CC cream as it feels weightless on the skin. I also think this would be best for those with normal to dry complexions. It’s so pretty and natural-looking that this won me over after the first application.

The Ordinary Concealer Review

The Ordinary Concealer

The Ordinary Concealers

Like The Ordinary foundations, The Ordinary Concealer is formulated with a high-spreadability suspension system that provides high coverage yet looks natural on the skin.

This richly pigmented concealer spreads easily and provides a skin-like finish. The concealer comes in a wide range of 36 shades, including pink, red, neutral, and yellow, with cool, neutral, and warm undertones.

The Ordinary notes that the concealers are formulated slightly lighter in shade than The Ordinary Serum and Coverage Foundations, so you won’t be getting the exact same shade if you buy the same shade number across the collections.

Concealer is best when worn slightly lighter than your typical foundation shade, as it helps to brighten the under-eye area.

The Ordinary Concealer Swatches

I purchased three shades of The Ordinary Concealer: 2.0P (light-medium with pink undertones), 2.0N (light-medium neutral), and 2.1P (medium with pink undertones).

While 2.0P and 2.1P were very close in shade, 2.0N appeared much lighter on my skin than both of the pink undertone shades. I will apply shade 2.1P and mix a little shade 2.0N in to lighten and brighten my under-eye area.

This concealer provides excellent coverage – much better than some drugstore concealers. It’s highly concentrated, so you don’t need much, and I love the precision tip applicator.

It spreads easily and covers my dark circles well. Plus covers blemishes and dark spots well, too, without looking cakey.

It does crease a bit but only needs a quick touch-up to correct it. It does not dry out even after several hours.

The Ordinary: Clinical Formulations with Integrity

The Ordinary offers clinical treatments backed by honesty and integrity. The brand falls under the DECIEM family of skincare offerings, which also includes the brands Hylamide and NIOD.

With a background in materials chemistry and biochemistry, the DECIEM team strives to bring innovation to their brands. They focus on honest communication and offering effective and familiar technologies in their products, all at very reasonable prices.

All DECIEM products, including The Ordinary products, are free of parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone. DECIEM does not test or pay others to test on animals.

Final Thoughts

I wasn’t expecting The Ordinary Colours makeup products to work so well for my skin. I think the formulas rival some of the best drugstore makeup foundations and concealers.

The prices are very affordable, and they provide a smooth and natural-looking base for color cosmetics, especially when used with a primer.

Have you tried The Ordinary Colors foundations, primers, or concealer? I’d love to know!

ILIA Makeup Review https://www.abeautyedit.com/ilia-clean-color-makeup-review/ https://www.abeautyedit.com/ilia-clean-color-makeup-review/#comments Wed, 02 Sep 2020 17:52:00 +0000 https://www.abeautyedit.com/?p=3228 In a continual effort to explore clean beauty options, and through taking advantage of a recent sale at Sephora, I’ve stocked up on some items that I’ve had my eye on for a while. One of those items is the ILIA Discover Clean Color Makeup Set.

I’ve heard great things about their Limitless Lash Mascara, so when I saw that a mini of the mascara was included in this set, I jumped at the chance to try it, along with some other ILIA makeup products.

Discover ILIA Clean Color Makeup Set Opened

I’ll discuss my experience and thoughts on these ILIA products in this ILIA makeup review.

UPDATE: I’ve been enjoying ILIA makeup products so much that I’ve purchased more ILIA products such as their Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation. Scroll to the bottom of the post to read about my experience with this foundation.

Ilia Discover Clean Color Makeup Set

Discover ILIA Clean Color Makeup Set Opened

I purchased ILIA Discover Clean Color Makeup Set, which is no longer available, as it was a limited-edition set. But all of the products in the set are still available at full size:

While not part of the set, I also purchased their True Skin Serum Concealer after hearing great things about the performance of the product.

Let’s start with my impressions of the items in the set:

ILIA Multi-Stick

ILIA Multi Stick in At Last sampled on hand.

ILIA Multi-Stick is 72% organic, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. It’s an easy on-to-go multi-taster for beautiful natural color on your cheeks and lips.

The stick has a soft buttery texture that melts into your skin upon application. This is thanks to sunflower seed oil, shea butter, and avocado oil in the formula.

The Multi-Stick shade included in the set is At Last (swatched above), a dusty rose which I think would work well for most skin tones.

I lightly swiped it against my hand above but you can create a deeper color if you apply additional pressure or multiple layers to your skin.

I love that once applied, the color is easily spreadable and very natural looking. This stick will be a new addition to my makeup bag since it is an easy grab-and-go product for both the cheeks and lips.

It can be applied to your cheeks with a buff brush or to your lips with a lip brush. I think the best way is to apply with your fingers directly to your face since it blends quickly and easily.

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara Wand

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara is made with 25% organic ingredients and is 99% natural, cruelty-free, and gluten-free.

A 2019 Allure Best of Clean Beauty Award Winner, ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara lifts, curls, lengthens, and volumes with a blend of organic bee and carnauba waxes.

This mascara is gentle enough for use on sensitive eyes and conditions your lashes with shea butter and arginine (keratin).

I love the dual-sided brush that separates lashes really well without a lot of clumping.

Use the shorter section of the brush to curl and volumize your lashes, and then flip over to the longer side. Use this side to lengthen and separate your lashes.

The mascara is available in only one color: Soft Black. While I prefer to use a Black-Brown for my light lashes, I don’t mind the black color since there are so many other benefits to this mascara.

Once the formula has dried on your lashes, I love that you can touch your lashes, and they actually feel soft and don’t flake. The mascara is also easily removed with warm water.

For me, this mascara works well and provides an understated natural look. Yet it is buildable, so a glam look can also be achieved with this mascara.

ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioner

ILIA Lip Conditioner in Forever Sampled on Hand

ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioner is a mix between a light lip color with a rich lip balm. It’s formulated with sunflower seed oil, cocoa seed butter, and orange peel wax.

The shade Forever is included in the set I purchased. This shade is described as Mauve.

While I found the color bit too deep and pigmented for my liking, I’m sure it will work much better for other skin tones

What I did love was the fact that the lip tint felt like a lip balm on my lips. Super moisturizing and hydrating.

Cruelty-free and gluten-free, and 85% organic, this lip conditioner is currently available in 12 shades. Choose from peachy neutrals to deeper berry shades.

ILIA Liquid Light Serum Highlighter

ILIA Liquid Light Serum Highlighter Sampled on Hand

ILIA Liquid Light Serum Highlighter (shown above in the shade Nova) is a gel-based liquid illuminator/highlighter.

Metallic is the first word that comes to mind. It leaves a bright and dewy finish. It is formulated with marine actives that firm and protect against free radicals and UV light.

The highlighter also contains mastic, which works to refine the texture of the skin, smoothing and evening the skin’s appearance.

Hydrolyzed algin, which is extracted from algae, helps to control oil and bacteria.

As you can see from the ingredient descriptions, the highlighter contains skincare ingredients that nourish your skin.

Nova is the shade I tried, which is a soft golden color. The color is luminous and glowy when applied above the cheekbones, but it also provides a beautiful hit of metallic color when applied to the eyelids.

You can also mix it in with your foundation for an all-over glow.

Liquid Light also comes in the shade Atomic, which is a pink pearl shade, and Astrid, a rosy gold shade. This product is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and silicone-free.

ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer

ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer

ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer is creamy and light but provides medium coverage on your skin.

It contains stabilized vitamin C (yes!) to fight free radical damage, Albizia julibrissin bark extract to reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness, and mastic, a tree resin to refine and mattify the skin throughout the day.

The concealer comes in 12 colors (I use Chicory SC1). It helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles and other imperfections and brightens the skin under your eyes.

ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer Wand

I love this concealer! The first reason that I love the concealer is the coverage.

I really wasn’t expecting very good coverage, but it covers my dark circles really well! I also love the color match that I found in the shade Chicory. Plus, it’s a lightweight formula.

The applicator is different in that it is rectangular and somewhat flat, making an application under your eyes quick and easy.

It wears well and doesn’t crack as much as other concealers that I’ve tried. And to top things off, the product ingredients read like it is a skincare product!

The concealer is vegan, silicone-free, and cruelty-free.

I’m so pleasantly surprised by the concealer and so glad I purchased it! After trying and loving the concealer, I saw that ILIA also has introduced True Skin Serum Foundation. Of course, I had to try ILIA Skin Tint, too!

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation is a clean tinted mineral foundation with SPF 40 that provides light dewy coverage plus skincare benefits.

This tinted SPF combines skincare, makeup, and sun protection into one product. The SPF contains non-nano zinc oxide, which will protect the skin from UVA, UVB, UVC, blue light, and infrared rays.

The ingredients read like an anti-aging skincare product. This foundation contains a blend of macro and micro hyaluronic acids, plant-based squalane (6%), and my holy grail skincare ingredient, niacinamide at 2%.

Niacinamide calms, protects, regulates sebum production, and more. As a result, this serum foundation will help soften fine lines and other imperfections. ILIA Skin Tint will also plump the skin and support the skin barrier thanks to hyaluronic acid.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation with Dropper

It is packaged in a bottle with a dropper applicator. I make sure to shake the bottle well and then apply a few drops to my palm.

I apply the skin tint to my face with my fingers and then build the coverage with additional drops depending on where I need it. The skin tint applies as a lighter shade when it is wet and will deepen once dried.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation Swatch

This is an absolutely lovely lightweight foundation (shown above in 7 Diaz) that doubles as skincare. And it includes an SPF, so essentially, you have a 3-in-1 product.

The coverage is a little light for me, but I can build it up to light-medium if I use a few extra drops. The finish is beautiful, glowy, and so natural looking.

I think this would work best for those with normal to dry skin since the coverage is so dewy. Perfect for days when you want lightweight coverage plus SPF!

This award-winning clean serum skin tint comes in 18 shades, is silicone-free, fragrance-free, chemical screen-free, oil-free, non-comedogenic, and safe for sensitive skin.

ILIA Clean Beauty

ILIA was launched in Vancouver in 2011 by Sasha Plavsic with the goal of creating products that perform but are also formulated without unwanted ingredients.

The brand was named after the middle name of Sasha’s brother, Zachary, who joined the company in 2013 as a partner. The name has multiple meanings, one of which is organic and healthy, which fits the brand to a tee.

ILIA balances functionality with sustainability through the hybrid use of safe synthetics and clean ingredients. Natural and organic botanicals are used as a base and where needed for the best performance, safe synthetics are incorporated into their formulations.

They make an effort to be transparent about all of their ingredients and even view their products as makeup infused with skincare.

When it comes to packaging, they make an effort to be sustainable wherever possible. They use recycled aluminum, newly introduced glass components, and post-consumer recycled paper printed with vegetable-based dyes.

One thing that strikes me about the brand is the vibrant colors used in their products. When it comes to natural makeup, vibrant is not a word that comes to mind, but in the case of Ilia Beauty, it does.

ILIA Makeup Review: The Bottom Line

I am so pleasantly impressed with the ILIA beauty products that I’ve tried. I can’t wait to test more from the brand. My favorites so far are concealer and mascara and I am loving ILIA skin tint foundation.

The only product that didn’t work so well for me is the lip conditioner due to the shade not working with my skin tone.

Have you tried ILIA makeup? I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of their clean beauty products!

It is an oil-free liquid silk makeup primer formulated to protect the skin and prep it for makeup application.

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas

I am a huge fan of the original solid primer from Tatcha, The Silk Canvas, so when I saw that Tatcha was releasing an oil-free liquid version, I jumped at the chance to purchase it at the recent Sephora VIB sale.

While I love the performance of the solid primer, I had a feeling that the liquid primer might be even better because it comes in an easy-to-use pump bottle.

I’ve been testing the new liquid every day with a variety of makeup products, so read on for my thoughts and experience in this Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Primer review.

The Verdict: LOVE IT!

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas – What It Does

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Makeup Primer

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Featherweight Protective Primer is an oil-free liquid makeup primer that is a multi-tasking skin protectant, makeup primer, and skin enhancer.

It is formulated to blur the skin with silk extracts and primes the skin for makeup application with silk powder.

Botanicals in the primer create a protective barrier between the skin and makeup. As a result, clogged pores that can lead to breakouts are kept to a minimum.

Natural active ingredients act against pollution and environmental stressors and the skin’s barrier is supported.

Pink and gold pearl help to even skin tone and contribute to a smoothed glowing complexion…the perfect canvas for makeup application

This liquid makeup primer is formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances, mineral oil, sulfate detergents, phthalates, urea, DEA, or TEA.

Tatcha – The Liquid Silk Canvas – Ingredient Spotlight

The Liquid Silk Canvas contains sericin and fibroin, which are two proteins found in silk. These proteins have a similar structure to amino acids that are in human skin, so these proteins not only hydrate but act like a second skin, giving the skin a weightless healthy glow.

Fibroin, sericin, and silk powder work together to help smooth the skin and allow the skin to retain moisture. The result is a healthy-looking, radiant complexion.

The Liquid Silk Canvas also contains Tatcha’s proprietary Hadasei-3 Complex, which is comprised of three Japanese superfoods.

Uji Green Tea detoxifies and helps reduce the visible signs of aging, while Okinawa mozuku algae helps skin retain water.

Akita rice is high in protein and moisturizes the skin. These superfoods are double fermented and deliver nutrients to the skin.

The Inspiration

The Liquid Silk Canvas is inspired by bintsuke. Bintsuke is the soft wax that geishas melt and apply to their skin as the last step of their skincare rituals.

Bintsuke, in essence, forms a canvas that helps makeup last all day while moisturizing and protecting the skin from makeup products and environmental factors such as pollution.

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Protective Face Primer

My Experience with The Liquid Silk Canvas

Let me preface this by saying that I had high expectations for this product since I love products from Tatcha, including the original The Silk Canvas Protective Primer.

Tatcha is one of those luxury skincare lines that does everything well, from the formulations to the visual, to the textures and the performance of their products.

I am happy to say that The Liquid Silk Canvas produced the same results as The Silk Canvas, and I happen to like the liquid even better than the original.

I’ll tell you why, but first, let’s discuss why the original is so good.

I’m not one to spend large sums of money on luxury makeup, as I would rather buy high-end skincare, but when it comes to Tatcha, all bets are off.

I’d heard raving reviews about their makeup primer so when I tried it and fell in love with it, I wasn’t thrilled because who wants to spend $54 on primer?

The Silk Canvas solid makeup primer was a revelation for me. It was so luxurious from the compact to the packaging to the scent to the performance and clearly the expensive price (!).

What it does so well is blur the skin, extend the wear time of makeup, and gently and minimally mattifies skin. All the things that I would hope a luxury primer would do.

So I’ll spend $54 for a primer that does all the things I want it to, but how about taking it to the next level with a liquid version?

If there is one complaint that I have about the solid The Silk Canvas is that it comes with a quarter-sized disc that is used to scoop out the primer, so there are a few steps to getting it on your face. With the liquid, it’s literally one pump and you are done.

Blurs, Smooths, and Extends Makeup Wear

I’ve tried The Liquid Silk Canvas with different types of foundation, from full coverage to sheer foundations. With every type of foundation, it does the same thing: it blurs and smooths my complexion in such an understated natural way.

One thing that really stands out is how well makeup adheres to my skin after using this liquid primer. The coverage of even the sheerest makeup is improved, like CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk, which, when applied without the primer, sinks in quickly and provides barely-there coverage.

Whether it’s drugstore or high-end makeup, this liquid Tatcha primer extends the wear and provides a smooth-looking complexion even at the end of the day. It really is a “canvas” in a sense, which allows makeup to perform better.

I love that The Liquid Silk Canvas also protects your skin from pollutants while keeping the moisture in. After application, my skin feels super smooth and just like silk, probably because there is actual silk in the formula.

Please note that Tatcha’s signature fragrance is found in this liquid primer. It’s a very pretty, light citrusy scent.

On days that I wear no makeup at all, I like wearing this primer to keep oil at bay throughout the day. In this case, you really do get what you pay for. This is the best makeup primer that I’ve ever used.

The Silk Canvas vs The Liquid Silk Canvas

Tatcha The Silk Canvas and The Liquid Silk Canvas Makeup Primer

While both the solid and the liquid transform your skin so that it feels like silk, I’ve used both on each side of my face to compare performance.

The liquid has a thinner consistency and feels lighter on my face than the original putty-like solid formula. The putty feels more like a balm after it is applied.

Both perform similarly and extend makeup wear time and help makeup adhere better to your skin. Blush and concealer wear well when using both primers.

They are both priced at $54. Since the liquid has an easy pump applicator and feels lighter on my skin than the solid, I prefer the liquid over the solid.

Final Thoughts on Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas

Lately, on days that I think I’m having a good skin day, I have to remind myself that I’m wearing The Liquid Silk Canvas.

With makeup or without, it’s a unique product whose performance I haven’t seen replicated anywhere else.

If you’ve never tried a primer and want to give it a go without the expense that comes along with Tatcha, I tested a drugstore primer from e.l.f. in this post: Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer Dupe. While nothing is exactly like Tatcha, if you want an affordable effective primer, this one is worth a try.

Do you use Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas or The Silk Canvas?

Do you think they’re worth the high price? Let me know in the comments!

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Makeup Review https://www.abeautyedit.com/covergirl-clean-fresh-makeup-review/ https://www.abeautyedit.com/covergirl-clean-fresh-makeup-review/#respond Tue, 12 May 2020 18:40:34 +0000 https://www.abeautyedit.com/?p=5678 CoverGirl Clean Fresh Makeup Products on Pink Fur

CoverGirl recently introduced the Clean Fresh collection, a line of vegan makeup products, formulated without sulfates, formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, or talc. The products are made with gentle hydrating ingredients like coconut milk and aloe vera to give your skin a healthy glow. The collection focuses on hydration and fresh, healthy-looking skin. The best part is that it’s all cruelty-free!

I picked up the following products from the collection: Clean Fresh Skin Milk Nourishing Foundation, Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter, Clean Fresh Cream Blush, and Clean Fresh Lip Oil, plus two Clean Fresh products exclusive to Ulta: Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer and Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist. I tested all of these products together and mixed with other makeup products.

NOTE: For reference, I have combination skin that is a light and cool-toned shade. Since the weather is still a bit cool where I live and my skin is somewhat dry, I was looking forward to putting these hydrating products to the test!

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation is a lightweight liquid foundation that is infused with milky coconut and soothing aloe. It’s formulated to blur imperfections and even skin tone while leaving a dewy finish.

This is definitely a foundation for those who prefer minimal to light coverage. I purchased shade 550 Light/Medium. Since I like a higher coverage foundation, I found myself returning to the tube several times to create more coverage. This foundation is really for a no-makeup look, as it does not cover my freckles and other discolorations.

I’ve worn this on several days since we’ve been staying at home and this foundation has definitely grown on me. It’s the lightest coverage makeup I have ever used. It won’t be my everyday makeup, but for those days when I’m having a really good skin day or when I want just a touch of coverage, this will be the foundation I choose.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer

When I saw that the Clean Fresh line was coming out with a concealer, I quickly placed an order online from Ulta. I am always testing concealers because under-eye circles and darkness are two of my main skin concerns.

Similar to the foundation, CoverGirl Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer is infused with coconut milk and aloe extracts. The coverage is buildable and it is formulated so that it won’t crack, crease or cake. The concealer comes in 14 shades (I purchased 240 Light).

I wasn’t sure about this concealer since I saw how lightly the foundation covered flaws and uneven skin tone, but was hoping that it would cover more than the foundation. Unfortunately, the coverage was very minimal. In fact, I can’t remember a concealer that covered less. You really need to build this concealer, but then it does, in fact, crack, and even then the coverage isn’t great.

This concealer might be a good for those that don’t need much coverage and simply want a really natural look, but it was not enough for me. This was my least favorite product in the group that I tried.

GoverGirl Clean Fresh Cream Blush

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cream Blush in Sweet Innocence

I’ve noticed an influx of cream blushes hitting drugstore lately, and this cream blush from CoverGirl is lush. CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cream Blush is infused with moisturizing squalane and hydrating sodium hyaluronate (the salt form of hyaluronic acid). It plumps the cheeks leaving a high-pigmented dewy finish.

You apply it with your fingers to your cheekbones. This blush can even double as an eye shadow with it’s four versatile shades. I picked up the shade 330 Sweet Innocence. It’s a lovely cool pink shade that has a metallic sheen to it.

At first, I had some trouble blending as it’s quite pigmented, but after applying it a few times, I learned to gently pat it into my cheeks with my fingers. It has a slight iridescent/metallic finish that can be blended down. A few dabs work as a highlighter on top of my regular blush as well.

The one main drawback for me is that the blush is somewhat transparent and smoothing the pigment with my fingers sometimes removes some of the foundation underneath. All in all, its a pretty pink natural-looking blush that provides a minimal fresh look.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter is an easy-to-use portable highlighter ideal for cheeks, lips, eyelids or even the décolleté. It comes in four shades.

I picked up the deepest tinted of this highlighter shade in Pink Thrill. It’s a little more golden than I would have expected, but it leaves a beautiful shimmer that looks so pretty on cheekbones. It’s even nice on the lips, even though it doesn’t provide much moisture. This is the type of product that you can throw into a gym bag or your purse when you want to highlight your cheeks and lips for a quick hit of color. Please note that this highlighter does have a light scent.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Oil

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Lip Oil

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Oil is made with coconut oil, pomegranate oil and Vitamin E for conditioning and moisture. The lip tint, which comes in 5 bold transparent shades plus a clear shade is formulated to last up to 6 hours. You can even apply this on top of lipstick or other pigmented glosses for a pop of color.

I didn’t have high expectations for this lip oil, because to be honest, I don’t love lip oils. I like the idea of lip oils, but they always seem to disappoint. They are so nice once after your initially apply them, but they seem to dry out quickly and leave my lips drier than they were before.

I tried the fuchsia shade Bad Apple and immediately after applying noticed the color pay off was much more noticeable than I expected. The color is sheer but pretty and the color lingers. I don’t think the 6 hour part holds true in my experience, but this lip oil felt very moisturizing and more like a gloss or balm, and performed much better than other lip oils that I’ve tried. It has a slight pleasant scent, is not sticky and this is one of my favorite products in the line.

Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Prep Set Water Mist

Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist is a multi-tasking makeup finishing spray that hydrates, preps and refreshes the skin. It comes in three fragrances: Rose, Cucumber, or Citrus. It is formulated to apply before makeup application to prep the skin and after makeup to set it.

I purchased the mist in the Citrus fragrance. It smells somewhat citrusy with a hint of cucumber and is pleasant and not too distracting. For clean beauty fans, please note that the fragrance is artificial. I’m not sure why they include artificial fragrance when they go to great lengths to not include ingredients such phthalates, mineral oil, formaldehyde, talc, parabens, or sulfates. I suppose in order to sell three different sprays they differentiate the three by their fragrances.

The mist itself sprays evenly and dries without stickiness. It feels pretty weightless. Makeup applied easily over it and when it is also applied after makeup, it sets your makeup well and provides a natural finish.

Final Thoughts on CoverGirl Clean Fresh Makeup Line

It’s really great to see drugstore brands leaning more towards clean beauty and the CoverGirl Clean Fresh line is no exception. The focus of this vegan line leans toward hydration, and I found that to be the case with all of the products that I tried. Out of all the products, I really liked the tinted lip oil and the highlighter stick. The lip oil provides lasting tint to your lips and the highlighter is a great multi-tasker.

For a minimal natural glowy fresh look, this is the line for you. Have you tried any products in this line? What do you think of these products? Let me know in the comments…

I Tried This Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Dupe https://www.abeautyedit.com/giorgio-armani-luminous-silk-foundation-review-and-drugstore-dupe/ https://www.abeautyedit.com/giorgio-armani-luminous-silk-foundation-review-and-drugstore-dupe/#comments Wed, 05 Feb 2020 19:44:08 +0000 https://www.abeautyedit.com/?p=4339 Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is a high-end foundation that consistently finds its way to “best of beauty” lists year after year. Loved by beauty editors, makeup artists, celebrities, and the beauty-obsessed, it’s the one foundation that I had on my wishlist for years.

The price was the only thing holding me back. I eventually broke down and purchased it, and I must say, it’s as good as everyone said it was. But it got me thinking, isn’t there a Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation dupe that won’t break your budget?

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

This post contains affiliate links, and any purchases made through these links will result in a commission for me at no extra cost to you. Please read my Disclosure for additional information.

Well, as it turns out, there is! L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup is a foundation that gives you the same luminous, dewy finish as the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation but at a fraction of the price.

First, let’s take a look at what makes Armani Luminous Silk Foundation so unique and why it’s become such a cult favorite.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Inspired by charmeuse silk, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation from Armani Beauty is a lightweight oil-free foundation that uses Armani’s exclusive Micro–fil technology to blur imperfections and smooth skin texture while creating a veil of natural light coverage.

The result is skin that looks flawless, glowy, and healthy.

It’s buildable, so you can go from a natural, no-makeup look to medium coverage with a few more drops. Even after a few layers, it always looks natural and never cakey.

Here’s an interesting statistic: InStyle magazine crowned Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation their Best Beauty Buy Liquid Foundation 13 years in a row! So maybe there is something to all these claims about this foundation being a holy-grail beauty favorite?

It took a little digging to determine what exactly Micro-fil technology is, and, surprisingly, the company doesn’t provide more information on what it does for your complexion.

I couldn’t find many details, but from what I’ve read, it appears to be a technology that improves texture by providing a silky and lit-from-within radiant finish.

Of course, the main drawback is the price…

The full-size 1 oz bottle of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is pricey. It’s currently $65 for 1 oz. Ouch.

The good news is that it is also sold in a smaller size. So for a lower price, you can try the foundation before purchasing a full-size bottle.

The smaller bottle is 0.6 oz for $44. Not a great deal for the price, but it’s less expensive than the full 1 oz bottle.

At least the smaller bottle, like the larger bottle, comes with a convenient pump to dispense the foundation, unlike other high-end foundations (like Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, which requires you to purchase the pump separately for $12!).

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Shades

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation comes in 40 shades that are classified into the shade groups Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, and Deep.

Since the foundation is rather expensive, you want to get the shade that best matches your skin tone. Your best bet is to go to a store that provides shade-matching, such as Sephora or another department store.

Some retailers have shade-matching tools on their websites. Armani’s website has a Foundation Finder.

I used the tool, and the shade they suggested for me was one of the two shades I was considering purchasing, so it was helpful.

Since my skin is in the cool family, I purchased 4.75, a light, cool shade. I crossed my fingers and hoped that I chose the right shade for my skin tone.

I am happy to say that while slightly light, I can use this foundation without blending it with other shades.

An Affordable Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Dupe

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Dupe: 2 L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup bottles.

I’d heard from multiple sources that if you are looking for a dupe for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, you can try L’Oréal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup.

This foundation is formulated with 40% pure water to hydrate skin all day. It contains vitamin C and vitamin E, along with antioxidants to protect your skin and keep it looking healthy.

Liquid Light Technology provides an instant glow.

This Armani Luminous Silk dupe comes in 15 shades to match a variety of cool, neutral, and warm skin tones. It’s formulated for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi contains an octinoxate sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 20.

Although I don’t care for chemical sunscreen since it tends to irritate my skin, I went ahead and purchased True Match Lumi Foundation anyway.

For the low price, I figured that I would at least give it a try.

The shade C4 – a cool Shell Beige, was too dark for me, so I purchased N1-2, Soft Ivory/Classic Ivory. That shade was much closer to my skin tone.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup

ABOVE: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 4.75 – Cool, Light (left) L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup in N1-2 Soft Ivory/Classic Ivory (right).

L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup is not quite as thin a formula as Luminous Silk, but very similar.

While I think it provides better coverage than Luminous Silk, I had a hard time applying it with my fingers and needed to use a brush. It took some blending this Luminous Silk dupe to get it look even and smooth.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup Swatches

The formula wore well for many hours. This is an excellent Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation dupe at a very low price. No foundation I’ve ever tried is quite like Luminous Silk, but this one may be the closest.

L’Oreal owns Giorgio Armani, so it would make sense that a solid dupe would come from the same family of brands.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Review

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

If you want to skip the dupe and go straight to the best-selling Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, here’s my experience with it:

I now understand what all the fuss is about. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation sinks into your skin and somehow evens skin tone through its buildable coverage.

It’s funny how this foundation has quite an expensive price tag to make it look like you’re not wearing foundation. Somehow it succeeds!

It doesn’t require a lot of blending and leaves a gorgeous blurred finish to my skin. I don’t find it extremely radiant, but it’s not completely matte either. It’s right in between, the perfect balance.

I like Luminous Silk Foundation better than another holy-grail foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup.

Armani is so much lighter and more skinlike. On days that I absolutely need more coverage, I will add a few drops of Luminous Silk to Double Wear to thin it out.

The mixture provides more of a matte full-coverage finish.

I wish the price tag wasn’t so high, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. This foundation certainly won’t appeal to everyone, especially those looking for more coverage from a foundation.

If you are on the fence about trying this foundation, perhaps you can try the smaller size or test a sample before buying.

How to Apply Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

On the first application, I used only my fingers and no other foundation EVER applied so smoothly and quickly.

It disappeared into my skin even over many skincare products (multiple serums, a moisturizer, and sunscreen), without a lot of manipulation, which is unusual.

Armani recommends using a blender brush to apply the foundation.

Applying it with a foundation brush like this one from It Cosmetics works well for me. I don’t use a beauty blender since it might soak up too much product. For the hefty price, you don’t want to waste a drop!

The formula is rather sheer but easily buildable to near-medium coverage. Even at medium coverage, this foundation looks so natural and skinlike!

Those looking for full coverage may be disappointed, as it takes a few layers to build toward medium coverage. I don’t think you could get a radiant skinlike appearance with a thicker full-coverage product.

Is Luminous Silk Foundation Full Coverage?

No, Luminous Silk Foundation Full Coverage is not full coverage. It’s light to medium coverage that is buildable. I would say you could get medium coverage with 2-3 layers.

How Long Does Luminous Silk Foundation Last?

Luminous Silk Foundation lasts just about all day on me, from morning till night. I don’t notice much wear or fading, and it looks nearly as good at the end of the day as it did when first applied.

That’s one of the best qualities of this foundation, helping to justify the high price.

Since I have combination skin, I might touch up with powder to avoid some oiliness at the end of the day around my t-zone, but otherwise, it wears well for several hours.

It photographs beautifully too! If you’re looking for a foundation for special occasions or photos, this is a great option.

Is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Good for Dry Skin or Oily Skin?

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is formulated for all skin types. The foundation is oil-free and water-based.

Upon the first application of the foundation, I was expecting it to be dewier than it was. I typically love a matte finish, so I was happy with the more natural finish.

This Armani foundation left a slight glow on my skin, so I think the brand’s description of a silky radiant finish is spot on.

Oily skin types might typically avoid a radiant finish foundation like this one, but the oil-free formula provides a beautiful airbrush finish that wears so well throughout the day, even on oily skin.

Keep in mind that you can also use makeup setting products like a powder, primer, or setting spray to ensure the foundation performs to your liking.

Final Thoughts: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Dupe

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is beloved for its breathable, lightweight, incredibly natural-looking coverage. But with the exceptional performance comes a high price tag.

Luckily, L’Oreal True Match Lumi Makeup is a dupe that provides many of the same benefits as Armani Luminous Silk for a small fraction of the price.

While I still enjoy using Luminous Silk, when I want a similar radiant look (with SPF), I always reach for True Match Lumi Makeup.

Have you tried Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation? If so, let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear your results!

These labs and suppliers are located worldwide, including Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, UK, and the US.

What sets Beauty Pie apart is that they do not add the high markups (up to 10x) that usually come along with luxury beauty products

Beauty Pie prices are often lower than drugstore prices! They use the buying power of all of their members to get the newest and best formulations.

How Beauty Pie Works

Beauty Pie is similar to Costco or Sams Club in that you pay a membership fee for the ability to purchase their products.

In the US, access Beauty Pie products for just $4.95/month (billed $59.00 annually) or $10 monthly. They are currently offering a FREE 60 day trial, too!

Beauty Pie Everyday Great Skin Foundation

Beauty Pie Great Skin Foundation
Everyday Great Skin Foundation in the shade Ivory

Beauty Pie Everyday Great Skin Foundation is a lightweight fluid formulated with high-tech micro-pearls to leave a soft-focus finish.

The finish is described as “luminous matte,” and I would agree. It is very skin-like and wears well all day. This is an oil-free medium coverage foundation, but it is buildable if you want full coverage.

NOTE: This foundation comes with a pump similar to the pump I had to purchase for $10 to use with Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. But it comes with the Beauty Pie foundation for free!

I like this foundation better than most drugstore foundations that I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot of drugstore foundations. The foundation comes in 25 shades and is 30ml/ 1.01 fl oz.

Superbrow Fine Precision Pencil

Superbrow Fine Precision Pencil in Blonde Girl

Beauty Pie Superbrow Fine Precision Pencil is definitely high precision. It has a fine tip to recreate hair-like color on your brows.

It’s a no-sharpen brow pencil that’s easy to use and applies smoothly. The other end of the pencil is a convenient brow brush.

I’ve really been enjoying this brow pencil in Blonde Girl, (ironically) a soft brown. It creates natural feathery brows, has a nice texture, and the color works well for me. All this for $3.62! Beauty Pie Superbrow Fine Precision Pencil is 0.09g/0.003 oz.

Wondergloss Lip Oil

Beauty Pie Wondergloss Lip Oil Sampled on Hand
Wondergloss Lip Oil in the shade Ring My Bell

Wondergloss Lip Oil is a gel oil that imparts a sheer natural color on your lips.

Formulated with natural antioxidant hibiscus and cherry oils, essential fatty acids, and linoleic acid, this lip oil is conditioning as it creates a naturally dewy lip.

I love this neutral color and the sheer non-sticky formula. As you can see from the image above, the color really is sheer. It is the perfect complement to Smart Powder Blush in the shade Ring My Bell.

Wondergloss Lip Oil is 5ml/0.16 fl oz.

Beauty Pie Smart Powder Blush

Unfortunately this Beauty Pie blush has been discontinued! Try Supercheek Matte Vitamin Powder Blush instead.

Smart Powder Blush in Ring My Bell

Beauty Pie Smart Powder Blush is a very light powder blush that is slightly blurring and skin-perfecting. Made in Italy, this powder blush is infused with UV protective red algae and biosaccharides.

I purchased the shade Ring My Bell, a warm pink. What can I say? I love it! It’s the perfect shade for winter: a pretty, rosy pink. It is highly pigmented, and you don’t need much.

A minimal touch with your makeup blush brush will pick up plenty of color. It applies smoothly without a powdery finish.

The blush comes in four shades: Peach Dreams (a warm nectar), Go Rouge (a pink-orange), Bad Girl (a warm terracotta), and the shade above, Ring My Bell (a warm pink). The blush is 3.5 g/ 0.12 oz.

Shimmerbar Highlight Powder

Unfortunately Shimmerbar is no longer available!

Beauty Pie Shimmerbar Highlight Powder in Sugar Drip
Shimmerbar Highlight Powder in Sugar Drip

Shimmerbar Highlight Powder is made to impart a radiant glow without being too shimmery. Made in Italy, it has a blendable texture and is highly pigmented.

It is also a buildable formula that comes in four different shade options: Sugar Drip, a dewy rosy glow (shown above), Lumineer, a cool dewy, luminous glow, and Bikini, a beach-bronzed dewy sun-kissed glow.

I chose Sugar Drip since I loved the beautiful colors in the palette. The four shades in Sugar Drip are light and deep bronze, rose, and shimmery champagne.

I couldn’t reproduce the color swatches on my skin as well as Beauty Pie does on their website, so you can check out Sugar Drip Shimmerbar color swatch here.

You can swipe your makeup brush across all four colors and apply it to the high points of your face – the cheekbones, temples, and middle of the nose. Or you can zero in on one color. The pink is just gorgeous, and the light champagne shade is beautiful at the top of your cheekbones.

I just make sure not to overdo it since there is shimmer formula. I sound like a broken record, but this highlighter is just gorgeous! Shimmerbar is 8.5 g/ 0.30 oz.

Beauty Pie Makeup Review: Luxe For Less

After trying a few Beauty Pie makeup products, the biggest takeaway for me is that they are very high-quality. They do not feel or wear or look like drugstore makeup products.

I loved everything that I’ve tried.

Have you tried Beauty Pie? I’d love to know!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup Review

A full-coverage buildable matte foundation that is the perfect shade? Sign me up! I am the only one who has been on a hunt for a holy grail foundation most of my adult life? Of course, the bar is set high with very specific requirements: it must be matte for my sometimes oily skin. It must be full coverage to even out skin tone and other imperfections. It must be the right color.

Foundation color is a struggle for me. I self-tan my fair colored skin on my face year-round, so it’s been a little more challenging to find the right color. My skin color may vary here and there depending on the amount of self-tanner that I use.

I’ve had some luck with finding foundations that work for my skin only to find eventually find out that they have been altered or discontinued. I found a fantastic oil-free Chanel foundation years ago but unfortunately, it is no longer being made. So I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect matte full-coverage foundation for quite some time.

#1 Best-Selling Foundation in the US

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup and Pump

I’ve heard great things from beauty bloggers and YouTubers about Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup. So it didn’t come as a surprise to see that Double Wear is the #1 best-selling foundation in the US (per Estée Lauder’s website). The first thing I noticed is that they have a huge range of colors. I was hopeful that I would find a shade that worked for my skin. I tried a few samples and I fell in love. The coverage, the color, everything.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup is oil-free and the color is buildable. The pigments are very rich and saturated in such a liquid formula. They say that the color won’t grey on deeper skin tones and is perfect for hot and humid days as it is a waterproof formula.

They classify their colors as either cool, neutral or warm. If you burn easily in the sun and have a rosy undertone to your skin they recommend using their cool color makeup. If your skin is not too rosy or too golden, a neutral makeup color should work for you. For those that tan easily and have golden to olive undertones in your skin, warm makeup colors are your best bet.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Packaging

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup Pump

The bottle has a screw-top lid. That was the one thing that was a bit disappointing. Without buying a pump for the foundation, you would have to dispense it onto your fingers. First of all, this isn’t very sanitary. Second of all, you may have some difficulty controlling the flow of the liquid from the bottle.

The foundation isn’t inexpensive to begin with, so having to buy a foundation pump for it adds to the already somewhat expensive price. I reluctantly purchased the pump to make sure that it would fit the bottle and am glad that I did. I figure that I can save the pump for when I refill the foundation. As you’ll soon read, I will be refilling the foundation!

The formula is very saturated. It dried and set pretty quickly, so it’s a good idea to have a dampened makeup sponge or foundation brush at the ready to blend in the formula. It’s important that the sponge be damp so that the moisture from the sponge can move the foundation to where you want it.

Once it’s blended and set it really does stay put and doesn’t budge from your face. The coverage lasts all day without any shine build-up so it may appeal to oiler complexions.

Mixing Double Wear with Revlon ColorStay Makeup

I have been using Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin for years and think it’s a good drugstore makeup. I mixed Double Wear (color 2C3 Fresco in Estée Lauder Double Wear) with Revlon ColorStay Makeup (180 Sand Beige) to play with the color a bit. This lightened the formula up colorwise, but they blended together easily.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup and Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin

In retrospect, I really don’t know what took me so long to try this foundation. It really does live up to the hype and checks off all the boxes for a great matte foundation!
