10 Tarte Shape Tape Dupes That Will Save You Money

According to the cosmetics brand Tarte, one Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer is sold every 12 seconds. It’s that popular. I’ll admit it: I drank the Kool-aid.

There is something special about Tarte Shape Tape concealer that makes it my go-to for covering those dreaded dark circles and blemishes on a daily basis.

Tarte Shape Tape dupe from Makeup Revolution, elf, CoverGirl, and L'Oreal.

It has incredibly pigmented coverage that also targets discoloration and pigmentation. But are there any Tarte Shape Tape dupes from the drugstore that perform just as well?

I tried several drugstore concealers to see if they could be drugstore dupes for the iconic Shape Tape and was actually impressed with a few. But first, let’s talk about why Shape Tape is so popular.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Makeup Revolution, e.l.f., COVERGIRL & L'Oreal Concealers as Alternatives to Tarte Shape Tape

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer (shown above in the shade Light-Medium) is full coverage and creamy yet dries to a matte finish.

It not only acts as a concealer but also can contour and highlight. It won’t flake or crease and provides illumination to the skin creating a lifted appearance.

Tarte Shape Tape is formulated with shea butter to support skin elasticity, mango seed butter for moisture and protection from free radical damage, and licorice root extract for brightening dark circles and color correction.

With these ingredients alone, the formula would be rich, but it also contains sunflower seed oil and olive fruit oil, and a host of skin-conditioning plant extracts.

The tube is huge at .33 ounces, and the extra-large doe concealer applicator holds quite a bit of concealer to make depositing it under your eyes a breeze.

10 Tarte Shape Tape Dupes

I’ve seen quite a few concealers advertised Tarte Shape Tape Concealer dupes, so I purchased both newer launches and a few that have been around for a while.

The most difficult part of this entire experiment was finding the best concealer shade for my skin tone. For reference, I use Shape Tape in Light-Medium.

For this test, I focused on applying the concealers to my under-eye area, since that area is my biggest concern, more so than blemishes or discoloration. Under my under eyes, I like to use a shade that is a bit lighter than my foundation shade to brighten up dark circles.

I had to try a few shades in some of these dupes to get the best match for my under eyes, so you’ll see the variety of shades that I purchased in the images below.

1. e.l.f. 16HR Camo Concealer

e.l.f. 16HR Cam Concealer Trio

There has been a lot of talk about e.l.f. 16HR Camo Concealer (shown Left to Right: e.l.f. 16HR Camo Concealer in Light Beige, Medium Peach, Medium Beige) being an inexpensive dupe for Shape Tape with it’s up to 16 hours of wear.

It’s packaged like Shape Tape with its extra-large doe applicator and large tube. Its creamy pigmented formula is touted as a matte finish that won’t settle into fine lines. It comes in 18 shades and is full coverage.

I really liked the coverage of this concealer. It took a few tries to find a shade that would work well under my eyes.

e.l.f. 16HR Camo Concealer in the shade Medium Beige, open tube with applicator wand, flatlay.

I ended up purchasing 3 shades: Light Beige, Medium Peach, and Medium Beige (shown directly above) since those were the colors available at my local pharmacies.

Medium Peach worked well, but Light Beige also worked, so you may find that more than one shade works for your skin tone.

e.l.f. Camo Concealer: Wet vs. Dry Formula

It’s crazy how the shades of this Shape Tape dupe appear completely different when wet vs. when dry. I’ve never seen a cosmetics company provide wet/dry concealer swatch images like these.

They show you every color in the range, both wet and dry, so that you can see the clear difference between the two for each color. As if it wasn’t confusing enough to find the right color!!

The only drawback to this concealer (which seems to be a running theme with most drugstore concealers) is that although it isn’t supposed to settle into fine lines and wrinkles, you may experience some creasing.

2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer (shown above in the shade Light) is an excellent Shape Tape dupe and my holy grail drugstore concealer.

It has a thick, creamy texture that hides not only dark circles, but also blemishes, dark spots and uneven skin tone.

The coverage, color, and wear really work for the entire face, including the under-eye area. The only drawback for me is the cushion applicator.

After removing the applicator, I dispense the product onto my fingers and then apply the concealer to my face. I know it’s not intended to be used this way, but it works for me.

The concealer comes in 16 shades.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, Neutralizer, Brightener

In addition to a concealer, Maybelline also offers a Neutralizer and a Brightener that you can pair with the concealer.

Apply the Neutralizer under the concealer for extremely dark circles. Apply the Brightener to the inner corner of the eyes, brow bones, and bridge of the nose for a luminous finish.

3. Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer

Make Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer

When Makeup Revolution launched Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer (shown above in the shade C4), it was quickly dubbed as a Shape Tape dupe.

The color range is a whopping 50 colors. As a result, I found the best color match of all the concealers I tested. I use C4 for light skin tones with a pink undertone.

The thinner texture makes it excellent for blemishes and small areas of discoloration or hyperpigmentation.

The tube weighs in at less than half of the size of Shape Tape at 0.14 oz, and the applicator is much smaller than Shape Tape. I actually like the smaller applicator, which allows you to cover small blemishes and other imperfections easier.

4. L’Oreal Infallible Full Wear More Than Concealer

L'Oreal Infallible Full Wear More Than Concealer

L’Oreal Infallible Full Wear More Than Concealer (shown above in 345 Oatmeal) is a full coverage concealer that can be worn for up to 24 hours.

This matte finish concealer hides imperfections, contours, and highlights.

L’Oreal suggests going 1-2 shades deeper than your usual color to contour. For highlighting and brightening, they suggest going 1-2 shades lighter.

This concealer has an extra-large doe applicator and large tube just like Tarte Shape Tape. The waterproof matte concealer is available in 25 shades.

I’m not sure about 24-hour wear, but I did find that this is a full coverage concealer that dries to a matte finish. Be sure to apply this sparingly. Otherwise, you may see creasing and cracking if you have fine lines under your eyes.

I like that the formula is highly pigmented, and this works best for my blemishes and uneven skin tone.

5. CoverGirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer

COVERGIRL TrueBlend Undercover Concealer

CoverGirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer (shown above in the shade M150 Buff Beige)is a lightweight concealer formulated to cover dark circles, bags, and other imperfections.

It has an extra-large doe applicator and tube similar to Shape Tape. It dries to a matte finish and comes in 30 shades to match 99% of skin tones.

I found a great color match to my overall face color in this concealer in M150 Buff Beige. As a result, the concealer was slightly darker than I’d prefer for under my eyes.

I thought the coverage was medium. I experienced some creasing after a few hours, but less so than some of the other brands tested.

I will continue using this concealer for touch-ups, blemishes, and other discoloration.

6. Wet n’ Wild Megalast Incognito Concealer

Wet n’ Wild Megalast Incognito Concealer in the shade Light Beige, handheld.

Wet n’ Wild Megalast Incognito Concealer (shown in the shade Light Beige) is a buildable matte concealer that provides medium-to-full coverage and long-lasting wear.

Its ingredient list reads like a skincare product. Key ingredients include shea butter, Licorice root extract, and mango seed butter. These actives work to nourish and hydrate your skin, helping to avoid dryness and creasing.

The highly pigmented concealer comes in a wide range of 22 shades.

Wet n’ Wild Megalast Incognito Concealer in the shade Light Beige, open tube with applicator wand.

This concealer is a great dupe for Tarte Shape Tape since it has a similar consistency, coverage, and finish. The main difference? The price!

Wet n’ Wild Megalast Incognito Concealer retails at around $5, making it an affordable alternative to Tarte Shape Tape, which retails for $31! A no-brainer!

7. Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer

Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer in the shade Light Beige, handheld.

Just as the name suggests, Milani Conceal + Perfect Longwear Concealer (shown in the shade Light Beige) is a full-coverage concealer that provides extended wear so that blemishes and other imperfections stay hidden all day long.

It comes in 18 shades and has a creamy, lightweight formula that blends easily and dries down to a crease-free finish.

The best part? This Milani concealer is infused with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which helps to hydrate and plump the skin, giving it a smooth, flawless look.

8. Ulta Beauty Full Coverage Liquid Concealer

Ulta Beauty Full Coverage Liquid Concealer in the shade Light Cool, handheld.

Ulta Beauty Full Coverage Liquid Concealer (shown in the shade Light Cool) is a lightweight and creamy concealer that deposits highly pigmented full-coverage color to hide imperfections.

The matte formula is multi-use, as it conceals, contours, highlights, and bronzes your skin. Its formula resists creasing and caking, too.

Dealing with redness and irritation? Aloe vera, chamomile green tea, and tea tree oil help heal and soothe your skin.

The longwear concealer comes in 16 shades. I love the tapered applicator, which makes it easy to get into the inner corners of your eyes and around your nose.

9. Flower Beauty Light Illusion Full Coverage Concealer

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Full Coverage Concealer in the shade Light, flatlay.

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Full Coverage Concealer (shown in the shade Light) is a full-coverage concealer formulated with blurring pigments to hide dark circles, fatigue, blemishes, and other imperfections.

The lightweight, creamy formula creates a soft-focus finish that easily blends into your skin without looking cakey or feeling heavy.

The angled applicator makes it easy to apply precisely and reach all the areas you need.

This Flower concealer comes in 12 shades and is perfect for brightening up your under-eye area and covering any redness or discoloration.

10. L.A. Girl HD Pro Conceal Concealer

L.A. Girl HD Pro Conceal Concealer in the shade Buff, flatlay.

L.A. Girl HD Pro Conceal Concealer (shown in the shade Buff) is a best-selling lightweight yet creamy concealer that provides natural-looking coverage while lasting all day.

No matter your skin concern, there is an HD Pro Conceal shade that will work for your skin since the concealer comes in 30 shades, plus 11 color-correcting shades and three highlighting shades.

Does it work to camouflage dark spots? Yes! Does it brighten dullness? Check! Does it hide dark circles? You bet!

And with the low price, you can try quite a few shades/color correctors and still be spending less than one Shape Tape Concealer.

The soft brush applicator provides a precise application, and the coverage allows you to conceal, highlight, contour, and correct with ease.

Shape Tape Dupes: Affordable & Just As Effective

Drugstore concealer formulas are so much improved from even a few years ago. I really like the larger applicators (for under-eye application) and the larger tubes.

My experience? L’Oreal Infallible, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, and elf Camo Concealer provide fantastic coverage. I experienced less creasing with CoverGirl. Makeup Revolution offers a huge shade range. Ulta, LA Girl, and Flower have excellent applicators.

These drugstore dupes performed really well and were so affordable, so I’ll continue using them alongside Shape Tape.

I will definitely keep them on hand not only for my under-eye area but also for touch-ups, blemishes, discoloration, and pigmentation.

Hey. Could you say maybelline age rewind is a dupe for shape tape minus the application hassle? Does it provide as good of a coverage as does shape tape?

Which has better coverage for concealing dark circles and acne marks, elf camo concealer or maybelline age rewind (just based on coverage, not creasing and other factors)? I'm torn between the two. I already have maybelline age rewind so I'm debating whether I should buy elf camo concealer or not because I want the best of the two for my acne scars.

Hello! Lately, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer has been my go-to concealer since I found a shade that works well for my complexion and I love the coverage. It is very pigmented and lasts all day. I think the finish is slightly more matte than Shape Tape, but in my experience, the coverage is nearly as good, so I think the formula is an effective and affordable dupe for Shape Tape! Thanks!
