NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate Review

NIOD, the lesser-known sister company of popular skincare brand The Ordinary, is all about no-nonsense skin care formulations that use the most advanced technologies available.

While these products are pricier than the super affordable The Ordinary products, you get quality skincare products that provide results.

NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate was a no-brainer purchase for me, as I always struggle with the signs of aging on the skin around my eyes. I snatched it up during NIOD’s annual sale and will discuss my experience with the eye concentrate serum in this NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate review.

What is it formulated to do? It targets the visible signs of aging around your eyes. Yes! The formula’s anti-aging benefits go to work on both your upper eyelids and your lower eyelids as well as under your eyes.

It targets dynamic lines and static lines, loss of elasticity, dark circles, puffiness, and uneven skin texture—basically all of those pesky signs of aging.

You are supposed to start to see results in as little as three days, and improvements will continue into eight weeks as you continue to use the concentrate.

Peptides and Antioxidants

There are many peptides in this eye concentrate. Peptides are amino acids and building blocks of proteins like collagen and elastin and are responsible for communication between your cells.

This communication can lead to new collagen production, diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improved skin elasticity.

NIOD FECC also contains many antioxidants, like epigallocatechin gallatyl glucoside and gallyl glucoside. Antioxidants are some of the best actives for the skin.

They can protect your skin from oxidative stressors that damage collagen like the sun, pollution, smoking, and other environmental factors.

Antioxidants can help decrease the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, dullness, and discoloration in the skin.

More Anti-Aging Ingredients

Some of the more well-known ingredients in this NIOD eye serum that you be familiar with include:

Niacinamide: Niacinamide is undoubtedly one of my favorite skincare ingredients. It has a wealth of research behind it and offers multiple benefits for the skin.

Niacinamide has been shown to fight acne, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and uneven skin tone while improving skin barrier function by increasing ceramide synthesis. It’s a true multitasker and can be used by all skin types.

Sodium Hyaluronate: This is the salt form of hyaluronic acid (HA). It can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, which makes it an incredible hydrator and a promising ingredient for those with dry skin.

Ascorbyl Glucoside (Vitamin C derivative): Ascorbyl glucoside is a stable form of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) that provides antioxidant benefits.

It also penetrates the skin readily without altering the skin barrier function, improves collagen production, and helps fade hyperpigmentation.

Ascorbic Acid: This pure form of vitamin C is one of the best ingredients for brightening dull, discolored skin.

Pure vitamin C is also a potent antioxidant that fights free radicals, helps to smooth the look of wrinkles and fine lines, and fights pigmentation.

Centella Asiatica Extract: This Asian herb is a staple ingredient in Korean skincare and beauty products.

It’s a powerful antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing benefits. It can even help with wound healing and skin conditions like eczema.

Glycolic Acid: Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates the outer layer of skin, helping to fight wrinkles and pigmentation. It also encourages new cell growth and can help with acne.

Glycolic acid has the smallest molecules of all the AHAs, which means it can penetrate deeper into your skin to get down to work.

Lactic Acid: Lactic acid is another AHA that works similarly to glycolic acid but has larger molecules, so it doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply. It can help to brighten pigmentation, improve elasticity and fade wrinkles.

Technology, Delivery Systems & Additional Ingredients

The key ingredients in FECC are very impressive, but its delivery systems really make this eye concentrate stand out.

Getting hyaluronic acid into the skin to provide hydration is a huge benefit, and NIOD’s advanced delivery systems ensure that the eye area will be able to receive the benefits of HA and each and every other exciting ingredient in this eye treatment.

Here are some highlights of the other ingredients and technologies in the concentrate:

Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen Technologies

Fibroblast Drone: A drone in skincare? NIOD describes this as “perhaps a most advanced skin technology available.”

Drone delivery is another way of describing encapsulating an ingredient, in this case, peptides within a polymer core, so they don’t release until they reach their target.

The peptides zero in on their target, fibroblasts, which produce collagen. This technology improves the delivery and effectiveness of hyaluronic acid.

Methyl-Glucoside-6-Phosphate (MG6P): This active is part of a complex tradenamed Neodermyl, which also contains the amino acid/mineral complex Copper Lysinate/​Prolinate. The complex works to improve collagen and elastin production.

It is supposed to enhance the look of skin firmness and density and reduce wrinkles within 15 days, per the manufacturer.

Darutoside Complex: A plant technology that improves the look of both upper and lower eyelid elasticity while reducing the look of folds in the upper eyelids. It also has wound healing and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract: This Persian Silk Tree biotechnology provides antioxidant benefits that fight wrinkles.

Matrixyl Synth’6: A complex containing Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, a peptide that is supposed to increase the production of the six major components of the skin matrix to reduce wrinkles, especially crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead wrinkles.

Expression Technologies That Target Wrinkles

Neuron Drone (sounds very high-tech!): This second drone technology targets expression lines. The exciting part of this technology is that it reduces peptide wastage by 90%.

SNAP-25 Pentapeptide-18 Complex: The next generation of Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline) helps reduce the signs of expression lines, offering a 100% further efficacy over Argireline alone.

Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate (Syn-Ake): Walgerin-1 tripeptide technology in the form of a topical Botox alternative that helps to smooth wrinkles.

S-Mu-Conotoxin Cniiic Acetate: Snail venom mimetic technology in the active mimics a peptide found in marine cone snail venom to reduce wrinkle depth.

Uneven Pigmentation Technologies

Marigold/Yeast Ferment Bio-Complex: This biotechnology targets a reduction in the look of dark circles and sensitivity.

Fluid Retention Technologies

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5: Helps to reduce the look of under-eye puffiness within 15 days with continued use per the manufacturer.

Algae-Harvested Sulphated Polysaccharides: This antioxidant-rich marine technology improves the look of resiliency and reduces the look of under-eye puffiness.

Fraxinus Excelsior (Ash Tree) Bark Extract: An antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that has regenerative properties for the skin.

NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate Review

Honestly, I’ve never reviewed a product with such a complex collection of science-driven ingredients.

At the end of the day, though, what really matters is how it performs. It may contain the most amazing ingredients, but if you are not satisfied with its performance, it won’t matter.

I am happy to say that the eye concentrate has provided excellent results over the past several weeks that I’ve been using it.

I first had to get used to the product’s texture, as I am used to using eye creams, not concentrates. I’ve never really loved eye serums all that much since they usually aren’t that moisturizing, and I end up adding an eye cream on top.

But NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate differs from other eye serums I’ve tried.

It has a slightly thicker serum consistency and has no stickiness but drenches your eye area in hydration, thanks to the technologies discussed above.

I don’t feel like I need an eye cream on top of it, although I like to apply an eye cream after the concentrate in my evening skincare routine to seal in all of the potent actives.

When used alone in my morning skincare routine, I still feel moisture under my eyes at the end of the day. And it doesn’t interfere with makeup application either.

While nothing topical can truly plump the hollows under my eyes, I find that this eye serum has helped to smooth fine lines and soften the puffiness and darkness that plagues my under-eye area.

It hydrates exceptionally well for an eye concentrate.

I have some crepiness on the inner corners under my eyes, and this eye treatment has also helped soften it. While it doesn’t erase wrinkles and fine lines, and I still have dark circles, I have seen an improvement.

A little goes a long way with this eye contour concentrate serum.

After cleansing, toning, and serums, I apply one drop per eye on the delicate skin around the eye contour and follow with the rest of my skincare routine.

NIOD suggests patch testing before applying this and any other new skincare product for the first time. And, of course, don’t forget sunscreen in your morning skincare routine.

A 15ml bottle retails for $70. It’s a bit pricey, but a little really does go a long way.

Final Thoughts: NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate

Although it contains an intimidating ingredient list that can be hard to decipher, this is a very impressive eye treatment product.

I don’t see it as a cure-all, but some fantastic technologies are included in this technologically advanced eye concentrate.

It makes the thin, delicate skin around my eyes feel smooth, hydrated, and plump, which I love.

Yes, the serum is on the pricey side, but it does deliver. It takes a commitment to see results, but after several weeks, I can say that I have seen an improvement in the look of my eye area.
