The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil contains only Rosa canina seed oil. This oil comes from the seeds of the Rosa canina plant, also known as the dog rose plant.

This rosehip oil is organic and cold-pressed. Cold-pressing helps retain the benefits of the oil’s components during oil extraction.

Rosehip Seed Oil Benefits

There are many rosehip oil benefits. Rosehip oil is rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, linolenic acid, and oleic acid. These fatty acids moisturize the skin and support a healthy skin barrier.

Rosehip oil has a high concentration of linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid), a building block for ceramides (lipids) that has been shown to offer benefits for those with acne-prone skin:

The Benefits of Linoleic Acid

  • This clinical study demonstrated that linoleic acid helped reduce microcomedones (small acne blemishes) by almost 25% over a one-month period. Other research shows that acne patients have lower levels of linoleic acid in their surface lipids (oils).
  • Linoleic acid also helps to reduce hyperpigmentation caused by the sun’s UV rays, as it inhibits melanin (pigment) production in the skin. So rosehip oil is a great choice for improving skin dullness, discoloration, and uneven skin tone.

Rosehip oil also contains potent antioxidants such as tocopherols (vitamin E) and carotenoids (pro-vitamin A). Carotenoids are what give carrots their orange color and The Ordinary rosehip oil a golden-yellow shade.

Antioxidants are excellent for the skin, as they help protect the skin from free radical damage, a significant cause of photoaging in the skin.

Antioxidants also smooth the look of wrinkles and fine lines and help the skin look firmer with improved skin elasticity.

The comedogenic scale ranges from 0 (lowest) to 5 (highest) and measures how likely an ingredient is to clog your pores. Rosehip oil has a low comedogenicity rating of 1.

Rosehip oil’s low comedogenic rating makes it attractive to those with oily and acne-prone skin, but remember it is an oil, so it may be too heavy for those with very oily skin.

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil: PROS and CONS

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil is a deep rich golden yellow shade that absorbs into the skin without leaving behind excessive greasiness or leaving your skin feeling like an oil slick.

I apply a few drops of this facial oil after my regular moisturizer when my skin feels extra dry or congested. I think this rosehip oil does a great job of balancing my skin. I’ve seen fewer breakouts while using this and appreciate the extra moisture that it provides.

Since you only need a few drops per application of this organic rosehip oil, this bottle will last you quite a while. I like to use it at night before bed because I wake up with glowing, smooth, healthy-looking skin in the morning.

The Ordinary notes that since this rosehip oil is unrefined and contains a high amount of omega fatty acids, it will have a natural scent that does not indicate rancidity.

I notice a very faint scent, but it dissipates quickly after application.

While this oil would be great to treat dehydrated and dry skin for added moisture and a stronger skin barrier, it can also help with hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

Those with oily and acne-prone skin can also benefit from rosehip oil and may even see fewer blemishes and acne breakouts in the process.

This rosehip oil is ideal for every skin type, so you can use it even if you have sensitive skin.
