The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA is an anti-aging peptide serum formulated to improve the visible signs of aging and skin texture. Never one pass up an anti-aging skincare product, today I will discuss my experience with the serum in this The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA review.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA Serum

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA serum contains 10% Matrixyl, a trademarked peptide formula created by the French manufacturer Sederma, Inc. Matrixyl is all about wrinkles, so this serum is for you if you are concerned with static and dynamic wrinkles and fine lines.

This peptide serum contains two generations of Matrixyl: Matrixyl 3000 and Matrixyl Synthe’6.

Matrixyl 3000

Matrixyl 3000 is a trademarked peptide complex that contains the following ingredients: glycerin, water, butylene glycol, carbomer, polysorbate 20, palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7.

Matrixyl 3000 helps improve skin elasticity, skin firmness, and skin roughness.

The two stars of the show are palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7. It’s the most popular matrikine duo in the world that helps rebuild the skin matrix and improve collagen production.

Palmitoyl tripeptide-1, also known as pal-GHK, is a three amino acid peptide, thus the “tri” in the name. The three amino acids are attached to a fatty acid, palmitic acid, to improve skin absorption and oil solubility.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins in our skin, like collagen. As a type 1 Collagen fragment, palmitoyl tripeptide-1 can signal the skin to make more collagen. Yes, MORE COLLAGEN, please!

Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 is a chain of four amino acids attached to palmitic acid. Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 reduces the production of interleukins, which are inflammatory molecules that lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin.

In a 2-month manufacturer’s clinical study on Matrixyl 3000, female participants saw a 45% decrease in surface occupied by deep wrinkles and improved skin tone. In a separate two-month clinical study on men, participants measured a 17.1% decrease in wrinkle volume.

Matrixyl Synthe’6

Matrixyl Synthe’6 is the trademarked peptide complex that contains glycerin, water, hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, and palmitoyl tripeptide-38.

Per the manufacturer, Matrixyl Synthe’6 smoothes wrinkles by rebuilding the skin on areas like the forehead and around the eyes where we get crow’s feet.

Palmitoyl tripeptide-38 supports the production of 6 essential components of the skin matrix: collagen types I, III, and IV, tissue-repairing fibronectin, hyaluronic acid, and Laminin-5.

This serum also contains hyaluronic acid (HA) in the salt form of sodium hyaluronate, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This high level of hydration serves to plump out fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother appearance.

The serum is formulated at a pH between 5.0 and 6.0, which is close to the skin’s natural pH (around 4.7.)

Now that the technical details are explained, how did it perform?

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA is a water-based serum with a clear, odorless liquid gel texture that absorbs better than some of The Ordinary’s other serums.

Once absorbed, there is no stickiness, which makes it easy to layer with other skincare serums or treatments.

I like to use this serum as a booster to other serums, like The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum (if I’m feeling extra dry), vitamin C derivatives during the day, and retinoids or retinol at night.

Its texture is non-greasy, and I like the high concentration of wrinkle-fighting actives that specifically target wrinkles, firmness, and elasticity.

I use this as a targeted treatment on my forehead for its ability to smooth fine lines with an added hydration boost. I love that I can use it twice a day without worrying about irritating my skin.

I saw softening of my fine lines when I used this serum in conjunction with The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10%. For more on my experience with using the two serums together, please see my The Ordinary Argireline review post.

Who’s It For?

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA Serum

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA would be ideal for those with aging and mature skin looking to address the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This targeted treatment would be a fantastic booster to pair with compatible other anti-aging products and skin care treatments.

This peptide serum would also be great for those with dry skin, thanks to the added benefits of hyaluronic acid.

It’s comfortable on the skin, so I think it would also be an excellent choice for sensitive skin that can’t tolerate retinoids or other potent actives like glycolic acid.

Where to Buy The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

You can purchase The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA serum in the US at Ulta, Sephora, and The Ordinary’s website.

How To Use The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

After cleansing and toning your skin, apply a few drops to your face and neck. Follow with thicker serums and treatments and your moisturizer. Be sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher in the AM.

You can use this peptide serum twice a day, but do not use it on broken skin. Be sure to patch test this and any other new skincare product before using it on your skin for the first time.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA Conflicts

Certain potent actives can alter the effectiveness of peptides, so you should not use this serum with exfoliating acids (i.e., glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid), l-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C), ethylated ascorbic acid, and resveratrol 3% + ferulic acid 3%.

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum, formerly known as The Ordinary “Buffet”

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum

This everything but the kitchen sink formula of The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum (formerly known as The Ordinary “Buffet”) contains multiple peptides, including Matrixyl 3000 peptide complex, Matrixyl Synthe’6 peptide complex, SYN-AKE peptide complex, ARGIRELOX peptide complex, Postbiotic complex, 11 skin-friendly amino acids, and multiple hydrating hyaluronic acid complexes.

The total concentration of these actives in the formula by weight is a whopping 25.1%.

This serum is jam-packed with anti-aging actives, including both actives from Matrixyl 10% + HA. I think it’s one of the best products that The Ordinary offers.

The Ordinary “Buffet” + Copper Peptides 1%

The Ordinary "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% serum

The Ordinary “Buffet” + Copper Peptides 1% (see my complete review here) serum contains the same ingredients as The Ordinary “Buffet” plus a 1% concentration of pure copper peptides.

Copper peptides provide multiple benefits for the skin, including normalizing immune function, supporting collagen synthesis for firmer skin, fibroblast production (cells in connective tissue that help with wound healing), and reducing anti-inflammatory responses in the skin.

The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10%

The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10%

The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10% is a water-based serum that contains 10% ARGIRELINE, a peptide complex trademarked by Lipotec S.A.U of Barcelona, Spain. It works to improve dynamic folds in the skin, including around the eyes and forehead.

It works in a similar way to Botox, yet is a topical skin care treatment and doesn’t need to be injected under the skin.

Another great serum from The Ordinary for wrinkles and lines that can be used as an alternative to Matrixyl 10% + HA or paired with it for extra wrinkle-fighting power.

The Ordinary products never fail to impress. The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA is a high-concentration serum with peptides and hyaluronic acid, so it’s great for those with mature skin looking to fight the signs of aging, including wrinkles and lack of firmness.

I love the non-irritating peptide formula in this serum as well as the low price tag.  It feels luxurious on the skin and absorbs quickly without any sticky residue.
