Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Review

Olay is a drugstore skincare brand that offers skincare products that address many skincare concerns, including aging-related issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity and firmness, uneven skin tone and texture, and dullness.

In today’s post, I will share my experience with Olay’s collagen peptide skincare products (both the original and MAX versions) in this Olay Collagen Peptide 24 review.

The products in this collection are formulated to transform how the skin looks and feels while addressing the visible signs of aging.

There are four products in the Collagen Peptide 24 skincare collection: cleanser, serum, eye cream, and moisturizer.

The actives that Olay features in this line are Collagen Peptide and niacinamide (Vitamin B3). These are multi-benefit ingredients that hydrate the skin while addressing the signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and lack of firmness.

One of the main benefits of this skincare line is that the products help to improve the visible signs of aging over the long term while avoiding the irritation, peeling, redness, and dryness that often comes along with other actives like retinoids.*

All Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products are fragrance-free.

Active Ingredients in the Collagen Peptide 24 Collection

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is one of my favorite skincare actives. It has multiple benefits to help improve the appearance of the skin. It softens fine lines and wrinkles, improves the appearance of pores, dullness, uneven skin tone, and strengthens the skin barrier.

Niacinamide also brightens the skin, regulates oil production, and has anti-inflammatory benefits. It also helps protect against moisture loss and dehydration.

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (Collagen Peptide)

Olay’s Collagen Peptide, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, also called Matrixyl, was created by Olay’s parent company, Procter & Gamble, and French cosmetics supplier Sederma. This peptide is made up of a chain of five amino acids.

The amino acid sequence of lysine–threonine–threonine–lysine–serine is combined with the saturated fatty acid palmitic acid to form Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4. This amino acid sequence is structurally similar and a subfragment of type 1 collagen.

Type 1 collagen is found throughout the body in our eyes, skin, tendons, bone, and teeth. This type of collagen helps improve skin elasticity, minimize fine lines and wrinkles, and hydrates the skin.

Although most research comes from manufacturer-sponsored clinical studies, it has been shown that this peptide can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin texture and supports collagen production. (See this study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science).

Even when used at very low concentrations, it has been shown that this peptide has similar effects on the reduction of wrinkles without the harsh side effects that come along with retinol.

Palmitoyl DiPeptide-7

Palmitoyl DiPeptide-7 is a patented Olay peptide that helps improve skin resilience and helps Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 be better absorbed.

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Review

Now, onto the first step of our skincare routine with these new Olay products: cleansing with Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Cream Cleanser.

This cleanser provides the benefits of Olay’s Collagen Peptide formula while leaving your skin smooth and bright.

The cream cleanser preps your skin for the next steps in your skincare routine. It is formulated with Collagen Peptide (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4) and niacinamide (B3), for hydration and to support skin cell turnover and regeneration.

It also contains salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells on the skin surface and deeper into the pores.

I am really enjoying this cream cleanser. Due to the cleanser’s exfoliating grains (in the form of hydrated silica), I prefer to use this cleanser in the morning, when I don’t have to remove makeup around my eye area.

If I do use it in the evening, I double cleanse with a cleansing balm first to remove my makeup prior to using this cleanser.

I massage it in circular motions to gently remove dirt and oil and lightly exfoliate my skin. It leaves my skin soft, supple, and bright.

It is formulated with Collagen Peptide (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4) and niacinamide (vitamin B3), to hydrate, brighten, and support cell turnover.

This serum also contains Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, otherwise known as snow mushroom.

This sugar molecule hydrates by binding moisture to the surface of the skin.

It has even better water-holding abilities than hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It leaves a smooth and non-sticky finish on the skin.

This serum feels very luxurious. Like most Olay products, the texture is lovely and it absorbs quickly without the slightest sticky or tacky feeling.

It wears very well under other skincare and makeup products. I love the inclusion of a peptide and niacinamide (one of my favorite skincare ingredients) that work to address fine lines, uneven skin tone, dullness, and clarity.

One of the best things about this serum is that I experience no irritation or redness from it. Plus, I can use it twice a day. Any serum that provides anti-aging benefits without irritation is a keeper.

Puffiness will be reduced after only a week. The appearance of dark circles, fine lines, and crow’s feet will also be minimized. It also helps to improve the look of sagginess and elasticity in the skin around your eyes.

Like the other Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 products, this eye cream contains Collagen Peptide in the form of Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 and niacinamide (vitamin B3) to hydrate, brighten, and support cell turnover.

Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, otherwise known as snow mushroom, binds to moisture on the surface of the skin.

Niacinamide brightens and helps to smooth fine lines, while glycerin and panthenol moisturize the skin.

This eye cream can be used both morning and night and leaves my eye area very smooth and hydrated. It is extremely lightweight and sinks in easily and quickly without leaving any residue or greasiness.

It performs really well under makeup and concealer too. Plus, it’s super gentle and non-irritating to my somewhat sensitive skin.

This silky lightweight cream absorbs so quickly into the skin and provides 24 hours of hydration.

It is formulated to smooth the texture of the skin within a week and firm and soften fine lines and wrinkles within two weeks of use.

Like the rest of the products in the collection, this moisturizer is formulated with Olay’s Collagen Peptide, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, and niacinamide (vitamin B3) to hydrate, brighten, and support cell turnover.

This Olay Collagen Peptide 24 moisturizer is the final step that really helps to hydrate and brighten my skin. It leaves my skin so incredibly soft and smooths my skin texture.

It gets rid of dullness and any lackluster appearance of my complexion. When used alongside the serum and eye cream, my skin’s clarity has greatly improved.

I really enjoy using this cream on the evenings when I use the Retinol 24 MAX serum.

It provides excellent hydration (applied on top of the serum), which is ideal when using products like retinol which may cause redness, dryness, and irritation.

Order of Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Product Application

The Olay Collagen Peptide 24 skincare collection can be used as a morning or evening skincare routine.

The only product that is missing is a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher which should be applied as the last step of your morning skincare routine.

This SPF 30 mineral sunscreen from Olay is my current favorite, as it is hydrating yet sinks in without leaving an unattractive white cast on my skin.

When I use the Collagen Peptide 24 products, this is the order of application:

Morning Skincare Routine with Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Products + Sunscreen

• Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Serum

Evening Skincare Routine with Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Products

• Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Cream Cleanser (I double cleanse to remove makeup with an oil-based cleansing balm or cleansing oil prior to this cleanser)
• Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Serum
• Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Face Moisturizer

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX Products

While I have really enjoyed using Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products, I recently ordered the newer Collage Peptide 24 MAX formulations to compare them to the originals.

Olay now offers the following products in Collagen Peptide 24 MAX:

• Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX Serum
• Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX Eye Cream
• Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX Moisturizer

All of the MAX formulations are fragrance-free and contain the highest amount of Olay’s Collagen Peptide (2x) compared to the original and are a bit more expensive than the original Collagen Peptide 24 products.

SPOILER: Between the original Collagen Peptide 24 products and the Collagen Peptide 24 MAX products, I prefer all three MAX products:

It contains the same ingredients as the original Collagen Peptide 24 Serum but 2X the Collagen Peptides. The serum can be used both morning and evening for firmer skin in as little as 2 weeks.

This fragrance-free serum feels very silky on my skin, and I notice that my face feels nice and hydrated all day long.

The texture feels slightly richer than the original. Otherwise, like the original, this serum does not irritate my skin and works well with makeup and other actives like retinol.

Like the original Collagen Peptide 24 eye cream, it is designed to hydrate and firm the skin around the eyes, including the under-eye area, outer corners of the eyes, and eyelids.

Like the original Collage Peptide 24 Eye Cream, niacinamide works to brighten dark circles while glycerin and panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) lock in moisture.

This eye cream can be used both morning and night and creates a smooth canvas for concealer and makeup. It feels very similar to the original, perhaps slightly more moisturizing.

I think this eye cream is also a bit creamier than the original, although it still feels lightweight on my skin.

This is one of my top picks for a moisturizing drugstore eye cream, as it non-irritating and addresses the visible signs of aging under your eyes.

Collagen Peptides are the building blocks of collagen and help visibly diminish lines and wrinkles. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that helps brighten the skin and even out skin tone.

Panthenol is also known as pro-vitamin B5 and helps soothe and condition the skin.

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 vs MAX Moisturizer

Of all of the MAX products, I noticed the biggest difference between this moisturizer and the original. It feels richer and more hydrating, and feels creamier on my skin than the original Collagen Peptide 24 moisturizer.

So if you’re torn between the original and MAX, I’d say go with the MAX since you are getting twice the peptides, too!

Olay Anti-Aging Skincare Products

If you are in the market for anti-aging skincare products, I want to mention one of the most effective over-the-counter anti-aging ingredients: retinol (retinol is a type of retinoid).

When it comes to over-the-counter products, you will usually get the most bang for your buck from anti-aging products that contain retinoids.

That being said, some people have sensitive skin and can’t use retinoids. Others can only use retinoids on a limited basis in order to avoid irritation and redness. That’s where Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 products come into play.

NOTE: In this blog post, I discuss how much I love Olay’s wildly popular Retinol 24 skincare line. Olay Retinol 24 products address the signs of aging with Olay’s proprietary Retinol 24 Hydrating Complex. The line consists of a serum, eye cream, and moisturizer and is available in Original and MAX formulas.

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products are formulated to improve the signs of aging while hydrating and brightening the skin.

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products are the perfect products to alternate with retinoids like Olay Retinol 24 products. Or you can mix and match or simply use Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products in both the AM and PM and skip the retinoids entirely.

Are Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Products Suitable For All Skin Types?

Yes, I confirmed with Olay that Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products are formulated to be suitable for all skin types.

However, individuals with sensitive or irritated skin may want to patch test the products before using them for the first time to avoid an unwanted initial reaction.

I think normal to dry/combination skin types would benefit most from Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 products since they have such a creamy, nourishing texture.

Do Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX Products Provide Better Results Than The Original Versions?

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 MAX products contain a higher concentration (2X) of Collagen Peptides compared to the original versions. So, if you’re looking for an extra boost of peptides to visibly reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, then the MAX versions are definitely worth considering.

I think that both versions work well, but I personally prefer the MAX formulations of Olay’s Collagen Peptide 24 products as they feel more hydrating and luxurious on my skin.

Can I Use Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Products Alongside Retinol Products?

Yes, Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products can be alternated with or used in conjunction with retinol products.

They can provide hydration and support your skin while minimizing potential side effects such as redness or irritation caused by retinol.

While Collagen Peptide 24 products can be used 2x a day, retinol products should be used 1x a day in your evening skincare routine.

Are Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Products Cruelty-Free?

Olay products are not cruelty-free as they may test their products on animals where required by law.

Final Thoughts on Olay Collagen Peptide 24 Review

Olay Collagen Peptide 24 products are the perfect products to hydrate, brighten, and treat the signs of aging without the side effects that come along with other actives like acids and retinoids.

It’s nice to know that you get the anti-aging benefits of niacinamide and peptides with these products.

As a bonus, I haven’t had to deal with redness, irritation, or disrupting my skin barrier when using these products. They all have a very elegant and smooth texture and feel on the skin, too.

I still think that retinoids will provide a more immediate payoff in regard to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, and clarity.

Yet these products are perfect for alternating with retinoids, or for using when your skin is dry or dehydrated and in need of hydration.

These products have been so enjoyable to use and work really well with my skin. If you have dry skin or aging skin this could be a great product line for you.

Although, please keep in mind that what works for me may not work for you, as everyone’s skin is different.
