CoverGirl is a drugstore mainstay for its affordable and accessible makeup line. But did you know that CoverGirl just introduced a line of clean skincare products? Are they worth a try? I tested out four products from the Clean Fresh Skincare line, and I will discuss my experience in this CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare review.
Spoiler: I was pleasantly surprised! The packaging is cute and modern, and the products themselves are lightweight and easy to apply. They don’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin and absorb quickly.
The line includes a cream cleanser, face spray, and three moisturizers. Here are the products that I tried:

Clean Fresh Skincare Hydrating Cream Cleanser
Clean Fresh Skincare Hydrating Cream Cleanser is a non-drying cream cleanser that contains CoverGirl’s TruClean Cactus Water, which is electrolyte-rich. Electrolytes help your skin retain moisture, so they are a key ingredient in a cleanser designed to hydrate the skin.
TruClean Cactus Water is listed as Opuntia Ficus-Indica Fruit Water in the ingredient list, which is an emollient and softening agent and exhibits antioxidant properties. Opuntia Ficus-Indica is also known as prickly pear cactus.
This hydrating cleanser also contains meadowfoam seel oil, a non-greasy antioxidant plant oil that leaves your skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and moisturized. The cleanser is formulated for all skin types.
Although it’s formulated to remove dirt, oil, and makeup, I use this cleanser as a second cleanse after a cleansing balm to remove makeup.
This is a standard cream cleanser that contains hydrating ingredients and leaves skin feeling soft after use. It doesn’t dry out my skin as some foaming cleansers can, and it’s affordable. This cleanser would be great for dry and dehydrated skin types.
Please note that this cleanser contains added fragrance like the rest of the products in the line. It is a fresh uplifting scent.
Clean Fresh Skincare Priming Glow Mist
Clean Fresh Skincare Priming Glow Mist is an ultra-fine priming mist formulated with skin conditioning rosewater and a vitamin C derivative to hydrate and brighten your skin. Formulated for all skin types, the oil-free mist is designed to provide up to 8 hours of hydration and give you a fresh-faced glow under your foundation.
Like the rest of the skincare products from CoverGirl, it contains TruClean Cactus Water which has antioxidant benefits that protect the skin from environmental factors like UV rays and pollution that contribute to premature skin aging.
The glow mist contains Cocos Nucifera Fruit Juice (coconut water that is freeze-dried into a powder), which is filled with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, and other skin-loving actives that replenish and hydrate the skin.
The mist also contains 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, aka ethyl ascorbic acid, which is a stable form of Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that brightens the skin and protects it from environmental aggressors.
It has a spray nozzle that can be a bit challenging to control. The mist itself feels like a spritz of water on my face, not like an actual mist or cloud of product in the air.
I notice that my skin stays nicely hydrated during the day when using this after cleansing and toning my skin. It leaves my skin a bit tacky and feels a bit heavy on my combination skin.
The spray also contains a fragrance like the rest of the products in the Clean Fresh Skincare line.
I think this would be ideal for those who struggle with dry skin, as you can use it before applying makeup and throughout the day for a hit of hydration. Will I repurchase it? Since I prefer a more matte finish, and this leaves my skin dewy, I won’t be repurchasing.
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Weightless Water Cream Moisturizer
The most universal moisturizer in CoverGirl’s skincare range, CoverGirl Clean Fresh Weightless Water Cream Moisturizer is a light-as-air water cream that provides all-day hydration for a healthy-looking complexion.
The cream is designed to lock in moisture for up to 72 hours.
The water cream is formulated with TruClean Cactus Water to provide long-lasting hydration. It also contains 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a vitamin C derivative, which provides collagen boosting, skin brightening, and the antioxidant benefits of pure vitamin C.
Sodium hyaluronate (also known as hyaluronic acid) is included in the formula, which increases skin hydration and prevents water loss.
The moisturizer has a light, whipped texture and turns into a lightweight liquid upon application with a texture that reminds me of my favorite moisturizer of all time: Olay Whip. But this moisturizer doesn’t leave a matte finish, just a pretty, dewy glow on your skin.
The cream is lightweight and quickly absorbs into the skin without leaving a sticky or oily residue.
It also works well as a primer before applying makeup, as it helps to hydrate and prime the skin for a flawless makeup look.
My skin stays well hydrated after application. The cloud-like texture is very comfortable on the skin, and the cream smells refreshing, like all of the products in the Clean Fresh range.
While the moisturizer is formulated for all skin types and is oil-free, making it suitable for oily and acne-prone skin types, it may be a little too dewy for some. I think it would be best suited for those with normal to dry skin.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Mattifying Oil-Free Moisturizer
This was the product that I couldn’t wait to try: CoverGirl Clean Fresh Mattifying Oil-Free Moisturizer. Formulated for normal to oily skin, the oil-free moisturizer is formulated for 24-hour hydration.
It contains CoverGirl’s TruClean Cactus Water, as well as 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a vitamin C derivative that brightens the skin. Coconut fruit juice hydrates and moisturizes the skin with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and kinetin.
The moisturizer is lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a sticky or oily residue. Under makeup or when worn alone, it leaves a matte finish on my skin with a slight glow. This moisturizer is so lightweight and doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a heavy creamy that weighs the skin down.
I think one of the best qualities of this and the Water Cream moisturizer are their lightweight textures and finishes they leave on the skin while hydrating and moisturizing the skin. During the day under makeup, I prefer this matte finish moisturizer to the Water Cream.
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Dry Skin Corrector Cream
The third moisturizer in CoverGirl’s skincare line is formulated for normal to dry skin: CoverGirl Clean Fresh Dry Skin Corrector Cream. I did not test this cream, as my skin leans toward the oily side, but it contains ingredients like shea butter, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), apricot kernel oil, TruClean Cactus Water, and a vitamin C derivative to moisturize, nourish and brighten your complexion.

I am happy to say that all CoverGirl products are cruelty-free and do not test on animals. CoverGirl is Leaping Bunny approved by Cruelty Free International.
This certification confirms that CoverGirl does not test on animals, and neither do their suppliers. CoverGirl’s global supply chain has been audited from start to finish to verify that all of its products are free from animal testing.
Final Thoughts on CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare Review
Overall, I was happy with the CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare line. The products are a breeze to apply. They hydrate my skin and provide a pretty glow or a matte finish.
The only downside is that all Clean Fresh Skincare products contain a fragrance that some with sensitive skin may find irritating.
My favorites? The moisturizers! The Mattifying Oil-Free Moisturizer would be great for combination and oily skin or if you are looking for a lightweight moisturizing product.
The Clean Fresh Water Cream moisturizer is excellent for normal to dry skin types looking for deep hydration. It’s light, absorbs quickly into the skin, and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.
