CoverGirl recently introduced the Clean Fresh collection, a line of vegan makeup products, formulated without sulfates, formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, or talc. The products are made with gentle hydrating ingredients like coconut milk and aloe vera to give your skin a healthy glow. The collection focuses on hydration and fresh, healthy-looking skin. The best part is that it’s all cruelty-free!
I picked up the following products from the collection: Clean Fresh Skin Milk Nourishing Foundation, Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter, Clean Fresh Cream Blush, and Clean Fresh Lip Oil, plus two Clean Fresh products exclusive to Ulta: Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer and Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist. I tested all of these products together and mixed with other makeup products.
NOTE: For reference, I have combination skin that is a light and cool-toned shade. Since the weather is still a bit cool where I live and my skin is somewhat dry, I was looking forward to putting these hydrating products to the test!

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation is a lightweight liquid foundation that is infused with milky coconut and soothing aloe. It’s formulated to blur imperfections and even skin tone while leaving a dewy finish.
This is definitely a foundation for those who prefer minimal to light coverage. I purchased shade 550 Light/Medium. Since I like a higher coverage foundation, I found myself returning to the tube several times to create more coverage. This foundation is really for a no-makeup look, as it does not cover my freckles and other discolorations.
I’ve worn this on several days since we’ve been staying at home and this foundation has definitely grown on me. It’s the lightest coverage makeup I have ever used. It won’t be my everyday makeup, but for those days when I’m having a really good skin day or when I want just a touch of coverage, this will be the foundation I choose.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer
When I saw that the Clean Fresh line was coming out with a concealer, I quickly placed an order online from Ulta. I am always testing concealers because under-eye circles and darkness are two of my main skin concerns.
Similar to the foundation, CoverGirl Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer is infused with coconut milk and aloe extracts. The coverage is buildable and it is formulated so that it won’t crack, crease or cake. The concealer comes in 14 shades (I purchased 240 Light).
I wasn’t sure about this concealer since I saw how lightly the foundation covered flaws and uneven skin tone, but was hoping that it would cover more than the foundation. Unfortunately, the coverage was very minimal. In fact, I can’t remember a concealer that covered less. You really need to build this concealer, but then it does, in fact, crack, and even then the coverage isn’t great.
This concealer might be a good for those that don’t need much coverage and simply want a really natural look, but it was not enough for me. This was my least favorite product in the group that I tried.

GoverGirl Clean Fresh Cream Blush
I’ve noticed an influx of cream blushes hitting drugstore lately, and this cream blush from CoverGirl is lush. CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cream Blush is infused with moisturizing squalane and hydrating sodium hyaluronate (the salt form of hyaluronic acid). It plumps the cheeks leaving a high-pigmented dewy finish.
You apply it with your fingers to your cheekbones. This blush can even double as an eye shadow with it’s four versatile shades. I picked up the shade 330 Sweet Innocence. It’s a lovely cool pink shade that has a metallic sheen to it.
At first, I had some trouble blending as it’s quite pigmented, but after applying it a few times, I learned to gently pat it into my cheeks with my fingers. It has a slight iridescent/metallic finish that can be blended down. A few dabs work as a highlighter on top of my regular blush as well.
The one main drawback for me is that the blush is somewhat transparent and smoothing the pigment with my fingers sometimes removes some of the foundation underneath. All in all, its a pretty pink natural-looking blush that provides a minimal fresh look.
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Stick Highlighter is an easy-to-use portable highlighter ideal for cheeks, lips, eyelids or even the décolleté. It comes in four shades.
I picked up the deepest tinted of this highlighter shade in Pink Thrill. It’s a little more golden than I would have expected, but it leaves a beautiful shimmer that looks so pretty on cheekbones. It’s even nice on the lips, even though it doesn’t provide much moisture. This is the type of product that you can throw into a gym bag or your purse when you want to highlight your cheeks and lips for a quick hit of color. Please note that this highlighter does have a light scent.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Oil
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Tinted Lip Oil is made with coconut oil, pomegranate oil and Vitamin E for conditioning and moisture. The lip tint, which comes in 5 bold transparent shades plus a clear shade is formulated to last up to 6 hours. You can even apply this on top of lipstick or other pigmented glosses for a pop of color.
I didn’t have high expectations for this lip oil, because to be honest, I don’t love lip oils. I like the idea of lip oils, but they always seem to disappoint. They are so nice once after your initially apply them, but they seem to dry out quickly and leave my lips drier than they were before.
I tried the fuchsia shade Bad Apple and immediately after applying noticed the color pay off was much more noticeable than I expected. The color is sheer but pretty and the color lingers. I don’t think the 6 hour part holds true in my experience, but this lip oil felt very moisturizing and more like a gloss or balm, and performed much better than other lip oils that I’ve tried. It has a slight pleasant scent, is not sticky and this is one of my favorite products in the line.
Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist
Clean Fresh Prep & Set Water Mist is a multi-tasking makeup finishing spray that hydrates, preps and refreshes the skin. It comes in three fragrances: Rose, Cucumber, or Citrus. It is formulated to apply before makeup application to prep the skin and after makeup to set it.
I purchased the mist in the Citrus fragrance. It smells somewhat citrusy with a hint of cucumber and is pleasant and not too distracting. For clean beauty fans, please note that the fragrance is artificial. I’m not sure why they include artificial fragrance when they go to great lengths to not include ingredients such phthalates, mineral oil, formaldehyde, talc, parabens, or sulfates. I suppose in order to sell three different sprays they differentiate the three by their fragrances.
The mist itself sprays evenly and dries without stickiness. It feels pretty weightless. Makeup applied easily over it and when it is also applied after makeup, it sets your makeup well and provides a natural finish.
Final Thoughts on CoverGirl Clean Fresh Makeup Line
It’s really great to see drugstore brands leaning more towards clean beauty and the CoverGirl Clean Fresh line is no exception. The focus of this vegan line leans toward hydration, and I found that to be the case with all of the products that I tried. Out of all the products, I really liked the tinted lip oil and the highlighter stick. The lip oil provides lasting tint to your lips and the highlighter is a great multi-tasker.
For a minimal natural glowy fresh look, this is the line for you. Have you tried any products in this line? What do you think of these products? Let me know in the comments…
