If you’ve ever battled frizzy hair whether it’s due to your hair type or the humid weather, you know how frustrating it is to keep frizz under control. Whether your hair is fine or thick, flyaway prone or not, frizz can be a pain and annoying for us all.
Luckily, there are some fantastic anti-frizz hair conditioners that will help to smooth your hair, making rebellious and unruly hair sleeker and shinier, and healthier in the process.
I’ve tried quite a few conditioners over the years for frizzy hair, some better than others. For reference, I have straight hair but the ends have lost some elasticity, so my hair kinks up unless it is dried with a hairdryer and brush. So I look for products that help with no only frizz, but also for damage and dry hair. But first, why does our hair even get frizzy in the first place?

Why Does Hair Get Frizzy?
When hair is dry and in need of moisture frizz can set in. Dry rough hair cuticles will swell when exposed to moisture in the air, so humidity can be dry hair’s worst enemy!
Washing your hair in water that is too hot and overuse of hot tools can also cause frizz by depleting hair of moisture.
The Best Conditioners for Frizzy Hair
I’ve been using some of these conditioners for years, while others are newer discoveries. Although each formula is unique and is sold at different price points, they all share the same quality: cutting back on the frizz through hydration and smoothing the hair cuticle.
While I do think these conditioners will work optimally when paired with the matching shampoos, I don’t think you necessarily need the shampoos to see results. These five conditioners leave my hair manageable, smooth and soft with very little frizz.
Living Proof No Frizz Conditioner
Living Proof hair care products are anchored in scientific research. Their patented system called Healthy Hair Molecule (OFPMA) is used in Living Proof No Frizz Conditioner. OFPMA will smooth the hair while blocking humidity, all while helping hair to stay clean longer by repelling dirt and oil.
OFPMA effectively creates an invisible shield around the hair strand protecting it, and creating more nourished, polished and healthy-looking hair. It accomplishes all of this without weighing the hair down.
This conditioner has really impressed me, especially in humid weather. My hair dries smoother and softer when using this conditioner.
While I don’t think you must use the shampoo with this conditioner, I do think Living Proof styling products are top-notch. Their Restore line for dryness and damage is ideal to use in conjunction with their No Frizz line. I use Living Proof Restore Repair Leave-In treatment on my clean wet hair. The cream is infused with silk proteins for dry and damaged hair and also protects hair from the effects of UV rays. So while this is not part of their No Frizz line, I believe it really works to control frizz and smooth hair.
NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Conditioner
NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Conditioner is an Allure Best of Beauty winner for Best Conditioner for Frizzy Hair. I trust Allure, so this award sold me on this conditioner. I purchased both the shampoo and conditioner and am glad that I did.
The conditioner is infused with argan stem cells, which stimulate hair follicles, supporting hair growth. It is infused with argan, baobab and marula oils for nourishment and quinoa, a protein that protects and hydrates strands. Natural fruit extract yuzu ceramides detangle and calm the frizz.
The one thing that stands out to me about this conditioner is how lightweight the formula is. It leaves your hair feeling weightless yet smooth and shiny. The conditioner has a light citrus yuzu fragrance.
I’d never heard of this brand before reading about it in Allure magazine, but now I understand how it won Allure’s Best of Beauty award. It delivers on frizz control and also passes Allure’s standards for clean beauty by being free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
Matrix Total Results Mega Sleek Conditioner
Matrix Total Results Mega Sleek Conditioner contains shea butter to smooth the hair and manages hair against humidity. It leaves hair smooth, shiny, and defrizzed. Shea butter is rich in antioxidants and is a rich emollient, while glycerin moisturizes.
I don’t know what the secret is to this conditioner (maybe the shea butter?), but I have been using this conditioner on and off for several years and it does not disappoint. My hair is smoother, sleeker and shinier every time I use it.
Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner moisturizes and repairs by using Olaplex’s bond building technology. Formulated by chemists and based on science, this sulfate, paragon and phthalate-free conditioner reduces breakage, frizz, split ends, and flyaways by repairing broken disulfide bonds in the hair. This prevents further damage and leaves hair soft, shiny, and frizz-free.
Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner is a relatively new discovery for me and it by far has been the most impactful on my hair. This color-safe conditioner really works, even in the heat and humidity of the summer.
Olaplex comes in a three-step at-home system which can greatly benefit damaged hair. While the conditioner is meant to be used in the 3-step system, using it on its own will still do wonders for frizz. I discuss my experience with the entire Olaplex line in this post.

Pureology Hydrate Condition
Pureology Hydrate Condition is a conditioner for dry color-treated hair.
This Pureology conditioner deeply moisturizes dry hair without stripping it of its own natural oils all while protecting color with Pureology’s AntiFade Complex. Hair is easily detangled and this 100% vegan formula is also sulfate-free.
Jojoba, green tea, and sage condition the hair. Soy, oat, and wheat strengthen and repair the hair. This conditioner is like a literal wake-up call.
It is scented with peppermint and corn mint oils, and may slightly tingle on the scalp. I think it is invigorating, but please make note if you have sensitive skin.
Pureology Hydrate Conditioner was a discovery that I came across along with the matching purple Pureology Hydrate shampoo. They work well together to tame the frizz, even though they are in the Hydrate collection, not a specific frizz collection.
But since dry hair attracts frizz, this hydrate collection will provide the moisture that parched hair needs to combat frizz. Although a little pricey, my hair is left smooth and silky and super hydrated after using this conditioner.
