Acure Organics Skincare Review

Today’s post is all about the clean skincare brand Acure Organics. I’ve been wanting to try more products from this brand, as I’ve been very impressed with their bakuchiol and vitamin C serums, so I purchased several more products.

I will discuss my experience with Acure skincare in this Acure Organics skincare review.

Acure’s products are very reasonably priced, so I purchased several products, including a cleanser, scrub, serums, moisturizers, and face oils.

While I didn’t love everything I tried, there are a few products that have earned a regular spot in my skincare routine.

Acure Organics Skincare Review

It also contains Hippophae rhamnoides (seabuckthorn) fruit oil which has healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Glycerin and sodium PCA moisturize the skin, although these ingredients don’t get much of a chance to sink in to provide benefits before getting rinsed off the skin.

I only need a small amount of gel cleanser to create a lightweight and lemony foam. The cleanser works well as a second cleanse in the evening (after using a cleansing balm as a first cleanse).

Foam cleansers can be drying, but I didn’t notice that with this cleanser. I enjoy using it in the morning as my only cleanse due to the bright, uplifting scent.

If you don’t have sensitive skin and like foam cleansers, this one could be worth a try.

NOTE: Even though the cleanser is formulated for all skin types, it contains citrus oils, which offer the cleanser a bright and uplifting fragrance, but also may irritate sensitive skin, so please take note if you are sensitive.

Other soothing ingredients in the scrub include marigold and chamomile extracts and aloe.

Madonna lily is said to interfere with melanin production and help reduce the look of dark spots and even out skin tone. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin color.

Upon using it for the first time, I was unsure about this scrub since it contains walnut shell powder to exfoliate the skin.

I usually prefer AHAs like lactic acid, mandelic acid, or even low concentrations of glycolic acid to exfoliate my skin, so I was a bit reluctant to try an abrasive scrub, but this is a customer favorite, so I figured I would give it try.

You can see from the image above that it is a dark green scrub, which can get a bit messy. The scrub itself is interesting because as the French green clay dries on your skin it turns from a darker green to a lighter green.

While my skin felt soft and smooth after using the scrub, I didn’t love the walnut shells and the messy application.

Acure suggests using up to 3X a week. Walnut shells can have jagged edges, so they potentially can damage the skin depending on the size and shape, especially sensitive skin or if the scrub is overused.

For a physical exfoliator, I’d prefer a more rounded particle.

Please note that Citrus limon (lemon) peel and essential oils are included in the formula, which may irritate sensitive skin.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative that, unlike ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C), is stable and can penetrate the skin.

It may also offer some of the same benefits as ascorbic acid. This includes the ability to stimulate collagen production, fade hyperpigmentation and provide antioxidant benefits.

Ferulic acid is an antioxidant that helps to protect against skin damage from UV rays. (It also increases the stability and photoprotective benefits of pure vitamin C, even though pure vitamin C is not included in this formula.)

Ananas sativus (pineapple) fruit extract and Carica papaya fruit extract contain the enzymes bromelain and papain to provide a gentle exfoliation of the skin by removing dead skin cells.

This helps to brighten and smooth the skin and improve skin texture and skin tone.

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants that protect the skin against damaging free radicals due to UV radiation and other environmental factors.

It also combats wrinkles and fine lines and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits.

The serum almost feels like a lightweight lotion that sinks into the skin quickly and leaves no stickiness.

It is the perfect serum for day wear since it is filled with antioxidants that will provide protection from UV rays. It works well with makeup, too.

This is one of my favorite products from Acure and is quickly becoming one of my favorite drugstore vitamin C derivative serums. This serum is formulated for all skin types.

The cream contains a rich blend of safflower oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, sunflower oil, olive fruit oil, evening primrose oil, and argan oil.

It also contains pomegranate extract, which is rich in antioxidants and protects the skin from environmental aggressors.

This combination of rich oils makes it ideal for those with a dry skin type, although my slightly oily skin really liked this cream. It left my skin moisturized, plump, and with a soft glow.

I really like pairing this cream with Acure Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Acid Serum during the day. Both are lightweight, and the textures work well together.

I find that this cream strikes the perfect balance for my skin when worn with an oil-free foundation. My skin feels soft and hydrated but not greasy or oily.

The star ingredient in this product is niacinamide. Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is a well-loved multi-benefit active.

It improves the production of collagen and select proteins, which helps to firm and smooth the skin and reduce wrinkles.

Niacinamide also improves cell turnover and helps fade hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Niacinamide is a favorite of those with oily skin and acne since it helps to balance sebum production.

Research has shown that niacinamide, in the form of a 4% nicotinamide gel, has comparable results to 1% clindamycin gel in the treatment of acne.

Niacinamide is also good for dry skin as it helps to improve protein and ceramide synthesis, which helps to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce transepidermal water loss.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice soothes and moisturizes, while zinc PCA offers additional sebum regulating and antimicrobial benefits.

The lightweight gel serum has an elegant texture and sinks into the skin quickly. I like to use this serum during the day as I think it is doing a good job of keeping oiliness in check.

I love the short ingredient list and that the formula does not contain a lot of extra fillers. This niacinamide serum is a winner for me.

The serum contains bakuchiol, a plant extract derived from the Babchi plant.

Bakuchiol regulates cell behavior like retinol does, which means that it also offers many of the same anti-aging benefits as retinol, like a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines and improved elasticity, firmness, and photoaging (premature skin aging from excessive sun exposure).

Bakuchiol also offers anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and helps to reduce acne.

The difference between bakuchiol and retinol is that bakuchiol does not come with the typical side effects that retinol does, like irritation, redness, and peeling skin. This makes bakuchiol an all-star anti-ager in my book.

The serum also contains ascorbyl glucoside, a stable vitamin C derivative that offers similar benefits as vitamin C.

Curcuma longa (turmeric) root extract is helpful for oily and acne-prone skin as it is an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and helps regulate sebum production in the skin.

Other plant extracts include antioxidants eggplant and holy basil, both of which offer anti-inflammatory benefits.

The serum leaves your skin feeling slightly oily upon application, although this goes away after the serum is absorbed.

While the serum contains a small amount of Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, it contains a higher concentration of propanediol, which is a solvent and moisturizer that has an oily feel. (The Ordinary uses propanediol in some of their serums, and they have the same initial oily texture.)

Besides how fun it is to shake the bottle and watch the serum turn from blue and yellow to green, this lightweight serum is a great alternative to retinol, especially for those with sensitive skin. My skin drinks it up.

This is another one of my favorite Acure products. I like using it at night and pair it with the next item in this review: Acure’s overnight bakuchiol cream.

The cream also contains Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, which might be beneficial for acne-prone skin since research has shown that acne patients have lower levels of linoleic acid in their skin.

Helianthus annuus seed (sunflower) oil is another fatty acid-rich oil that is good for irritated, sensitive skin as it protects and restores the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Squalane is a very lightweight moisturizer that helps to reduce transepidermal water loss.

Oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil is also rich in fatty acids and contains reparative gamma-linolenic acid. This plant oil is excellent for irritation and helps to soothe inflamed skin.

Argania spinosa kernel (argan) oil is rich in antioxidants and soothes the skin.

We’ve already discussed how bakuchiol offers similar benefits as retinol but without irritation.

This overnight bakuchiol treatment is soothing and moisturizing while it offers multiple anti-aging benefits for the skin. It feels deeply moisturizing on my skin.

I’ve been using Acure Radically Rejuvenating Dual Phase Bakuchiol Serum followed by Acure Radically Rejuvenating Overnight Bakuchiol Treatment at night, and wow, am I seeing a difference in my skin.

My skin feels smoother and firmer without any irritation. I absolutely love the fact that it targets cells in the same way as retinol but doesn’t come along with the typical side effects of retinol.

The eye cream contains a variety of moisturizing and emollient oils, including avocado, apricot kernel, sweet almond, jojoba, olive fruit, and green coffee oil.

Green coffee oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E and can help reduce the look of puffiness.

The eye cream also contains plant extracts like ashwagandha, holy basil, reishi mushroom, blackberry, pomegranate, chamomile, acai, marigold, and turmeric extracts.

While I didn’t notice any noticeable changes to the dark circles or puffiness under my eyes, I found that its light cloud-like texture is perfect for wear during the day under makeup.

It leaves the delicate skin under my eyes soft and plump but not greasy.

The oil is rich in fatty acids, specifically linoleic acid, which, as noted earlier, can be helpful for those with acne.

Rosehip oil also offers anti-aging benefits for the skin. It can help to improve crow’s feet wrinkles, elasticity, and the look of acne scars.

It can even help fade hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and uneven skin tone, as it inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin (pigment) formation.

Sourced from Chile, this oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which also help with blemishes and acne-prone skin.

Rosehip oil is one of my favorite face oils, and this oil did not disappoint.

The oil is lightweight and quick-absorbing and doesn’t feel greasy or oily on the skin. I’ll use just a few drops after my moisturizer at night to seal in all the rest of the skincare actives underneath.

Although this oil will work for all skin types, those will oily skin may appreciate the lightweight feel of this oil that hydrates and moisturizes the skin.

It’s also noncomedogenic, which means it won’t clog your pores.

While moisturizing and lightweight, it feels slightly heavier than other squalane oils that I’ve tried and loved, like those from The Ordinary and The Inkey List.

While it leaves your skin soft, supple, and radiant, it’s not one of my favorite squalane oils.

The oil blend is a mix of sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, argan oil, grapeseed oil, kukui nut seed oil, blue tansy oil, yarrow oil, and German chamomile flower oil.

Blue tansy oil is soothing and moisturizing and what gives the oil its pretty blue color.

The oil also contains Rosa damascena (rose) flower oil which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (but also may irritate those with sensitive skin).

Kale, rosemary, and jasmine extracts and vitamin E soothe the skin.

While I’m not a huge fan of rose-scented products, this oil was a pleasant surprise. It’s very lightweight and soothing, and it didn’t irritate my somewhat sensitive skin.

The pump bottle makes applying the oil easy. (All Acure oils come in pump bottles.)

Even though it doesn’t appear to have a high concentration of blue tansy oil*, this is a lovely lightweight and soothing nighttime moisturizer that didn’t discolor my skin. Plus, it’s very affordably priced.

*Please note that ingredients are listed in order of concentration, and blue tansy is ingredient 12 of 15, so it doesn’t appear to be in high concentrations in this oil.

This smoothie-to-foam cleanser is like a super-green smoothie for your face. Ideal for thirsty skin types, the face wash contains adaptogenic ashwagandha, holy basil, reishi, and turmeric, plus a super greens blend:

• Kale: Rich in vitamins A, B, C, and K. Hydrates and detoxifies your skin.
• Spinach: Contains folic acid and vitamin B9. Reduces the look of fine lines and inflammation
• Neem: Contains moisturizing fatty acids, skin protective antioxidants, and antimicrobial compounds to support healing.
• Spirulina: Contains moisturizing fatty acids and amino acids.

When I first tried this cleanser, I thought it was a non-foaming cream cleanser. I was pleasantly surprised that it provided that satisfying foam, but at the same time left my skin feeling ultra-hydrated.

This cleansing cream rinses off cleanly and leaves my skin looking fresh and dewy. It has a very long ingredient list, so if you have sensitive skin, be sure to review it carefully before using it.

It contains several citrus and essential oils, which I don’t love, as it has a somewhat strong scent.

But overall, this green juice cleanser is a great choice for those who want a foaming cleanser that hydrates your skin.

Acure Resurfacing Inter-Gly-Lactic Exfoliator

Acure Resurfacing Inter-Gly-Lactic Exfoliator is chemical exfoliator that contains glycolic and lactic acids to help break down dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, leaving you with a brighter and smoother complexion.

Glycolic acid and lactic acid are alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which help increase cell turnover, exfoliate the skin, and improve skin texture and tone.

Formulated for all skin types, this gentle exfoliator also contains kaolin clay to absorb excess oil, and Zinc PCA to help control oil production.

The gray clay texture turns into a foam when water is added. It feels like my skin is getting a deep cleanse. After I rinse off, my skin feels smooth and refined.

I have slightly oily skin and find that this glycolic and lactic acid exfoliator helps keep my pores clean, while still providing enough moisture that my skin doesn’t feel stripped.

I like that this chemical exfoliator contains minimal ingredients, most of which are active ingredients that help improve skin texture.

I love how gentle it is and that I’m able to use it 2-3 times per week as instructed. I think this would be an excellent chemical exfoliator for those with sensitive skin, too, since it doesn’t feel too strong or irritating on my somewhat sensitive skin.

Please note that since this product contains alpha hydroxy acids, which make your skin more sensitive to the sun, it is important to always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or high while using this product and for a week after.

Final Thoughts on This Acure Review

The best Acure products? That will depend on your skin type and skin concerns.

I have somewhat sensitive skin, so I’ve really been enjoying Acure’s bakuchiol products as an alternative to retinol. I’m also loving the texture and feel of their Acure Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Acid Serum.

One point that I’d like to note is that Acure adds citrus fruit oils and/or essential oils to some of its products.

While this provides a lovely fragrance, it also may irritate those who have sensitive skin. My skin didn’t have any issues with these citrus oils, but I wouldn’t have missed them if they were removed.

Acure’s prices are very reasonable and are competitive with drugstore skin care brands.

You can easily incorporate an Acure product or two into your skincare routine, whether it be a cleanser, scrub, serum, moisturizer or oil.

I really love their Radically Rejuvenating line and look forward to trying more of Acure skincare products.
